Those links probably work, but it isn't going to help you any... If you boot 1.3 on an A1200 you lose your IDE controller, and hence your hard drive.  WHDLoad won't be much good when you don't have a controller, let alone hard drive visible to your current configuration.

AFAIK there is no way around this problem, other than to use an emulator or an A500/2000 with HD.

Uh, WHDLoad can and does use kickstart files. It will load those up (in this case, a 1.3 kick or somesuch) and redirect calls to the loaded kickrom.

As anal as this may sound, Amiga Inc has made it very clear they refuse to allow free distribution of old ROM images. I personally spoke(emailed) with Fleecy on this very subject some time ago and he made it very clear that any distribution is not allowed.

Cloanato's Amiga Forever is an inexpensive LEGAL emulation package.

Guys, please do NOT ask or answer this question again.

But, then, just as if you had booted a real 1.3 rom, wouldn't you lose the HD?  It used to be this way, unless newer versions of WHDLoad have a way of "sandboxing" the disk images to run on one ROM, while the rest of your system runs on another??  (I'll admit, I haven't run WHDLoad in quite some time, so maybe newer versions have much better feature sets than previous versions!)

My Amiga 2000 has a Hardrive, sure it needed extra software to support (GVP card drivers) but still. I am trying to buy this thing some 3.1 Kickstart ROMs. Once I have those I would have extra 1.3 ROMs to sell. If'n of course, you still want them.

Simply using the old ROMs is legal, correct? :-?  :-?  :-?  :-?  :-?  :-?  :-?  :-?  :-?  :-?  :-?

@jeffimix

You seem to be mistaking proper kickstart rom chips with a rom image file which the poster wanted.

I haven't looked in to it too deeply, but as I understand it, WHDLoad only loads the rom file in to memory. It then uses the patch/relocation info to send rom calls to the one it loaded instead of the rom you booted with.

I don't know how it did it in the past, but it wouldn't make sense for WHDLoad to physically softkick the rom, as that would defeat the purpose of WHDLoad itself, which is to allow you to cleanly exit the game when you're done playing it.

Ummm, I've been censored... well I did ask for it really. Apologies Amiga.org

Anyway got what I wanted, so thanks to those who replied.

Rant............

Ok, putting a 1.3 kickstart on the internet to share maybe illegal but, lets face it people who the hell (other than Cloanto) is making money out of the 1.3 kickstart? I think Amiga Inc should show their 'devotion' to the community and make some of these older ROMs (i.e. all but 3x) freely available, might make up for the old Team Amiga t-shirt scam a bit :)

More ranting......... sorry folks

Why should I REALLY give Cloanto £40 for the priviledge of being able to play a game that I've had for about 12 years now? Especially when I already have a real Amiga, I feel I'm effectively being penalised (however wrong this maybe) for investing £1000s in upgrading my Amiga setup over the years and supporting this platform.

Basically if I can't live with myself on this one, I'll just buy an A500 off someone on ebay for £5-10, rip out the ROMs put them in a diamond-encrusted box :) and bin the rest.

Sure a lot of what I said doesn't strictly make sense... ummm

I didn't say I disagree with you:-) Just have to keep legal and that means honoring the wishes of A-Inc.
