Toastscan behavior question

Alright, so I got my Toast Scan and cocolino+scroll mouse in the mail today.  Very pleased with both.  However, I noticed some odd behavior, and I don't know if this is software or hardware.

I started the "reboot and start" version of Slam Tilt, and the "loading" screen came up jittery and blurring, and also the menu screen was blurry.  then the table screen came up and it was fine.  Then I went back to the menu, and it was fine from then on.  Is there some setting I should change to avoid the wierd behavior?

Scandoublers sometimes take a little while to warm up, and the picture won't be perfect until it does so. Maybe it just wasn't warmed up until you had got in to the game? Try leaving it on a fuzzy screen without touching the Amiga and see if the picture gradually improves by itself.

I think that another factor is the lack of interlace, so if a particular game or part of a game relied on interlace originally, it may look weird due to flicker fixer turnung it off by default.

That woudn't explain why the same screen looked fuzzy, then looked ok when he went back to it. It's the same screenmode both times, so if it was an interlace problem then it should look the same both times.

Your theory is solid.  I had just pulled it out of the box, so yes, it may have needed to warm up.  I'm at work now but I left the machine on.  I'll bet it's fine when I get home

I did not know scandoublers had a warmup behavior.  Add that one to experience

Take a look at your drive light and see if the "jitter" is happening when the drive is in use. This is what I noticed when I tried a Toastscan years ago. Whenever the drive was in use, the screen dimmed a bit causing a flicker.

I think the Toastscan uses so much power that when a drive is in use, the screen dims. (but no, I didn't do a "power usage test" to see if this is actually the case - just my own theory)

As I said the way to test this is to start it from cold, get to a screen which looks fuzzy, then just leave it. If it is in fact due to the scandoubler needing to wam up, then the screen will improve by itself. Let us know if this is the solution :-)

I'm thinking it's probably not a power draw problem.  Before I started any of this I rewired a brand new 350W ATX power supply for use with my miggy.  It works perfectly and I get no screen dimming at all.

motorollin is right, I have had a toastscan for about a year and it takes anywhere between 30 seconds and one min. to warm up properly. (I am using a 400watt ATX power supply) During this "warm up" time the screen will jump around a fare bit and may go on and off (this is normal). If the picture seems soft or fuzzy after this there is a small adjustment screw located on the side of the Toastscan by the sVGA out, turn that and it should clear up.
