Help SCSI-2 termination of Jaz drive internal?
« on: May 15, 2006, 09:43:46 PM »
Hi -

Thanks in advance for any help !

I have an Iomega Jaz drive SCSI-2 and
wondered how to properly swap it with a
ZIP drive that is presently in my
Amiga system?

My ZIP drive is ID 4 and not terminated.
It sits between a CD drive (terminated)
and two HDs (non-terminated).

The SCSI drive has no jumpers for
termination.  I'm just wondering if
it is a native "unterminated" device
(so I can just pop it in where the ZIP
drive is) or "terminated" in which case
I need to put it as the last device
and remove the termination block from
the CD drive.

Any tips are appreciated !

According to the User's Guide, it seems like the Jaz doesn't have any onboard termination, but was shipped with a SCSI-cable containing a terminator in one end.

Hmmm - I came accross the drive second hand and it did not have a special SCSI cable with it.  While the manual does not show a special cable it is kind of implied, isn't it?
This cable seems to have a terminator at the end of the cable itself.  However, with the drive "in the middle" of a SCSI chain not needing termination I guess I can just add it in and leave the termination on my CD drive.  I'll give it a try and see what happens ! Thanks .

You only need termination at the ends of the cable. If the Jaz drive doesn't have a jumper to enable internal termination, then it does not terminate the chain. So if your Zip drive is not acting as a terminator either, then you can just swap them over. For ease of configuration, you may want to set the SCSI ID of the Jaz drive to the same as the Zip drive.
