Pocket UAE
« on: May 14, 2006, 11:22:52 AM »
Finally got around to taking some pictures and putting some first impressions down about my HP IPAQ hx 2495 running Pocket UAE.  First off some specs on the hardware.

HP IPAQ hx2495
processor      Intel PXA270 520MHz
system         Windows Mobile 5.0
display        3.5" QVGA TFT 240X320 16bit color
system mem     128mb
system ram     64mb
SD card        2gig
Bluetooth, Wireless LAN with SD/CF card slots

I'm running Pocket UAE emulating the following specs.

A1200
processor      68020/68881
system         Amiga OS 3.1
display        640X256 with 256 color
chip mem       2mb
fast mem       8mb

Finally got a really portable Amiga.  Pretty straight forward setting it up.  If you can config UAE for your PC you shouldn't have any problem configuring this.  Haven't run SysInfo yet but seems to be as peppy as my real A1200.  Software I've tried out so far has worked but without a real keyboard, (has popup stylus type) and with no joystick using some programs will be problematic.  I've also uploaded some pictures of the IPAQ running Pocket UAE.  Since the hardware with a 2Gig SD card cost $500USD it's not a very cost effective.

Standby . . . problems uploading pictures.  Will show up as soon as I can get AOrg to accept them.

Update . . . should be okay now.  I was trying to upload pictures of the wrong size.

I would like to know more.  I have a Dell Axim X51v and would love to carry my Amiga around with me!

Sounds great!

Your pictures are approved and online.

Pretty nifty, What have you tried on it so far?
Oh, does it have networking?

Now if they would just port AROS... :-D

Hey, nice one!

How does it look when you need to 'type' something?  Is there a keyboard drawn across the entire screen?

Have you found any programs for which it would be useful to have a portable UAE?  I imagine the keystroke/joystick input issue would be quite a downer for most programs.
Good good study, day day up!

A little keyboard that looks suspiciously like an A1200, appears at the bottom of the screen. The keyboard can be scrolled.

Your absolutely correct. It pops up and you "hunt and peck" the keys.  I've tried "Dungeon Master" and "Zak Mckraken and the Alien Mindbenders" games.  Not quite as good as a real Amiga and the sound skips.  I'd have to say so far the sound emulation is it's major weakness.  Will be trying to get online with it soon.  Game playing on the IPAQ is a drag so didn't expect emulated games to be any easier to control.

Have you tried with an A500 configuration?  020+AGA is overkill for things like DM and Zak McKracken.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Are you kidding? :-)................just imagine the possibilities:

Digita Organizer 1.1
SCALA MM300 (Now with Stylus Touch screen!)
HippoPlayer (for SIDS and MODS)
AMPlifier? for MP3's
DSS8+  for playing samples and DJing live
Softwood Thesaurus
Bible Reader
Amiga World Atlus
AmIRC on the Go!

All in the Palm of your Hand!  WooHoo!

and just think!  some PDA's have VIDEO OUT to plug into TV..............Imagine just showing a Presentation with SCALA from your Palm!  Woweee!

somebody try this please!......the touch screen feature might work with the Stylus!

As far as Games....one should be able to play Klondike easily............also Pinball Fantasies/ Slam Tilt, Simon, TwinTris

I would really like to know how that turns out too!

WooHoo...there is hope :-)  I have an AudioVox/Toshiba Pocket PC.....where can I get PUAE?

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

Nah, I wasn't kidding. I think the only program I've used from there is AmIRC, and don't use it anymore.  I've always been interested in SCALA, but never have gotten round to learning it.  Would you say it's still worth getting into at this stage?

DSS8+: 8 bit sampler?  I've done some DJing, but only very rarely use 8 bit samples, for some gritty sounds.  Maybe that would be good.  However, if the sound is skipping, what a hassle for live playing.  That situation could only get better though.

Is the organiser very good?  I've generally found most personal organisers to be:
1) not well suited to my requirements
2) require too much overhead to organise the organiser.
I had previously been on the lookout for something I would use though.
Good good study, day day up!

I think your Dell Axim will run PocketUAE.  Here's the link.
