G-Rex 4000D Product ID??

I have just gotten my G-Rex 4000D back from repair in France, but no PCI cards are found in the CyberStorm PCI menu (tested with 5 cards, 2 x Voodoo, 1 x ethernet, 1 x TV card, 1 x sound card), so it's most likely still broken.

In the expansion board diagnostic list I have 4 entries, 1 x product 100, and 3 x product 101, all the same manufacturer. The product 100 is the CSMK3 I'm using, but must the G-Rex 4000D list 3 entries???

I'll fire up my A4000D tonight and post the details of my early-boot-menu and CSPPC PCI menu, as far as listings of detected items go.

Is the standard Amiga 4000 PSU enough to power an Amiga 4000 with CyberStormPPC, G-Rex 4000D and Voodoo 3 3000 graphics card??

I have the following PCI cards inserted in my Grex 4000D (no zorro cards):

Voodoo 3 3000 (slot 4), Terratec 512i (slot 3), Ethernet (slot 2)

Here is a text file which I've created with word wrap off, with the listing of my early boot menu and PCI menu.

Some interesting notes:

Terratec 512i shows up as two entries in the PCI menu, possibly due to the audio and game controller parts being treated as separate entities.

There are 6 listings in the early boot menu for the 8512 number. I guess that one is for CSPPC, one for Grex 4000, and four are for PCI slots.

Thanks for the list. In the text file, shouldn't the product ID be 101 for the G-Rex? Since I only have 3 entries for the G-Rex, something is definately wrong with it.

You are using the same cards that I would like to use,even though I will be adding a TV card as well.

Are you running this off a standard Amiga 4000 PSU?

And can you tell me which revision your CSPPC is?

The product ID is 100. I've double checked that after seeing that yours was 101.

Yes I am. I think that the PSU should be enough in order to run everything, just like with the standard daughterboard. A beefy PSU is always better, but in the case of A4000D it would help more for the sake of better airflow than anything else, IMO, due to the bad chasis design of the original A4000D PSU.

And can you tell me which revision your CSPPC is?

It's a DCE CSPPC revision 4 (according to boardtype)

I have found an old SoundBlaster PCI128, and this can be found by the G-Rex, as well as my TV card. However, the Voodoo, Terratec 512i and ethernet can't.

Heat wasn't an issue during testing, since the top has been off during the whole period. No harddrive have been connected during test, so the PSU should easily be able to cope with the accelerator, the busboard and 2 PCI cards.

I get the same errors with both a CSPPC rev. 2, and a CSMK3 rev. 4, so the busboard is going back for repair.

The basic test of a functional Grex 1200 or 4000D setup would be inserting the Voodoo 3 card only, and getting display (early boot menu or the CSMK3/PPC menu) on your VGA monitor through it. Assuming that the accelerator card's firmware has been updated to the appropriate flash that is. :-)

The only other thing that you could try perhaps is another A4000 motherboard, but this is a loooong shot.

I've had a similar problem to yours some time ago, but this was related to a faulty Grex 1200 board. Basically, cards would be detected in the PCI menu, but with rather strange info, such as Unknown Display Device or similar...and I'd get that for Voodoo 3 which is compatible. :-?

It's not even possible for me to get to the PCI menu, because with a Voodoo installed the computer just goes into a reboot loop. The same goes if a Terratec 512i is installed.

If the SoundBlaster PCI128 and TV card is installed, both cards are listed in the PCI menu, and PCIScan lists the TV card if only this is installed, but crashes the computer if the SoundBlaster PCI128 is installed.

Anyway, since the TV card is listed in both the PCI menu and through PCIScan, the software side of things should be ok.

Anyways, the board is going back to repair, this time together with the PCI cards I want to use.

hum, are you sure about your PSU ?
with a voltmeter, how much do you read for +5v and +12v ?
Do you well have installed the good GREX firmware for your CPPC ? Do you have read the Yahoo! Group for the GREX, i remind about a resistor that must be changed somewhere...

I haven't got a voltmeter, so can't check.

Anyway, the exact same PSU have powered the motherboard, a CyberStormMK2 with CyberSCSI, CyberVision 64/3D with scandoubler, X-Surf, SCSI harddrive and floppy drive, so I believe it should be capable enough to power up the motherboard, CyberStorm PPC, G-Rex with Voodoo 3 and a floppy drive.
