Downloading files from RapidShare, using Amiga browsers.
« on: May 08, 2006, 11:14:45 AM »
  Hi.
 I have tried to download many files from rapidshare using Amiga browsers, but they all fail.
 I click on a rapidshare's file link. Then i click on the "FREE" button as i don't have an account and it comes with a page saying "You have requested the file XXXX.zip (XXX KB). This file has been downloaded XX times already etc, etc." And below this, a message with big letters "ERROR: Please enable JavaScript.". Nothing else happens. I waited for 5-10 minutes.
 The thing is that i access the site with javascript enabled... :-( I get the same result with AWeb and IBrowse.  I'm i doing something wrong or is it impossible to be done with an Amiga? :-?

Rapidshare uses some heavy javascript that first
lets you wait for a certain amount of time and then changes the page content to show the download link. That kind of Javascript doesn't work with IB or AWeb.

There's a way around this, though (using IB):

On the page that says "Error: you need to enable javascript", display the source code of the page and search for "unescape('')". Copy the
string to the clipboard, and open this URL:

http://de.selfhtml.org/javascript/objekte/anzeige/unabhaengig_unescape.htm

Display the source of the page, and change the line

var Beispiel = "%53%74%65%66%61%6E";

to say:

var Beispiel = "";

Then hit the "Update" button at the bottom of the source code window. IB's main window now displays the real download form.

Might sound somewhat complicated (there's probably an easier solution aswell), but this way you don't even have to wait until their download timer reaches zero ;-)

actually it stopped working long ago..
I use rs_bundle script for greasemonkey on firefox, the author says that rapidshare simply won't let you have the file until those 2 minutes expire..

 Well, it was working ok, until yesterday. Both with .de and .com using the method that cgutjahr provided.

 This is a rapidshare restriction for users with no payed account. The amount of time you have to wait, depends on the file size.

It works in OWB too until the file starts to be downloaded, OWB doesn't support file downloads yet so it opens the file in the browser as a text file.

so, you are a paying user? and you have to wait too?

OT:
I never paid for rapidshare, and don't plan to. I don't like it.  OTOH, usenet might be worth it.

edit: oh, I know now what you mean.. they did make some changes from yesterday, I noticed that too and downloaded the updated rs_bundle

Resurrecting this old thread: I have just found a way to download a Rapidshare link with the latest version of the site, and it's even easier than before!

- Open the desired link, and click on the "Free user" button

- View the source of the next page and search a line beginng with "var tt", e.g.:

Quote
var tt = 'http://rs97cg.rapidshare.com/files/11211993/1947510/firefox-3.0.4_amigaos4.lha" method="post">'

Just copy and open the URL in the "action" tag, and the download should start. This method seems to skip the countdown, too. I can confirm it works with IBrowse and NetSurf.
