The Internet
« on: May 08, 2006, 11:06:01 AM »
I hate the Internet.

Alright, it's a great tool for finding any kind of information you could possible want. But I still hate it.

When I was growing up playing on my A500, and later A1200, if I wanted any software for it I would load up my "KT's PD" catalogue diskette and choose what I wanted. My mum or dad would then have to write a cheque to pay for the disks and I would post it. About a week later my disks would arrive in the post. Waiting for the disks to be delivered was like waiting for Christmas. I would get so excited waiting to see what my new games and utilities would be like.

Nowadays, in the same space of time it took back then to receive 5 floppy disks I can download gigabytes of software if I want to. There is so much software available that I don't know what to do with it all. It's not exciting any more, and it all feels a bit soulless.

I can buy anything on the Internet. If I want computer parts or software, CDs, DVDs, clothes, shoes, *anything*, I can buy it on the Internet. This has caused me to become so lazy that the times when I do have to go to a real shop, to buy food for example, it feels like a massive inconvenience. I know this is down to my own laziness, but this laziness has developed due to the ease with which items can be found and purchased on the Internet.

If I wanted to keep in touch with someone, I would previously have phoned them, or written a long letter. The effort involved made it meaningful to receive a phone call or a letter from a friend or family member, as you know the effort they have put in to do so. Now we can email each other 10x a day, there's no meaning to it.

Like I said, I hate the Internet.

Flame me!!!    :flame:

consider yourself flamed ;-)
The only stupid question is a question not asked.

Win•dows: n. A thirty-two bit extension and graphical shell to a sixteen-bit patch to an eight-bit operating system originally coded for a four-bit microprocessor which was written by a two-bit company that can\'t stand one bit of competition.
