Cybervision PPC with CV64/3D's scandoubler
« on: May 06, 2006, 09:30:15 AM »
Hi,

I was wondering if it's possible to connect the Cybervision PPC to the standalone scandoubler module from a Cybervision 64/3D?

Since the CVPPC doesn't appear to have any kind of monitor switching/scandoubling capability, I thought this would be a good idea if it worked, to save from having to faff around with monitor switches and so on.

Is it possible? :-) I know I will probably need to make a custom cable, but I just want to know if it is possible from some more techinically minded folk. :-D

I don't actually have the hardware yet but I'm thinking of purchasing some gear to soup up my A4000 when it arrives. If this were to work it might be a decent setup.

Cheers for any advice.

It's not possible. The graphics card needs a build in monitor switcher, which the CVisionPPC doesn't have.

Really? I thought the scandoubler could just take the input from a graphics card and the switching was done on the scandoubler. I'm not usre I understand fully.

Ah well, worth a thought.

I'm just trying to think what would be the best one-monitor RTG+AGA solution... of course any other ideas would be helpful. :)

A lot of people give Phase 5 the finger when it comes to their GFX cards. Imagine them neglecting our 15Khz video heritage!

@doctorq

Are you sure?  I thought all the switching was done at the scan doubler, not the CV64/3D.  Has anybody tried?  (Either way, it wouldn't hurt anything.)
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

I assume (I might be wrong here...) that the CV64/3D scandoubler switch works more or less like this:

Signal on gfx-card input: Gfx-card selected for output
No signal on gfx-card input: AGA selected for output

Sounds nice & simple, but the CV-PPC/BV-PPC doesn't switch the output off when inactive, unlike other gfx-cards.

Which leaves the BMon switch in combination with a Scanmagic as a pretty good solution, nice&internally mounted, but still operated by a pushing a button.

The switcher is indeed in the scandoubler, but at least I never took the time to find out what triggers the switch. It's probably just one wire on the flat cable.
