Help putting accellerator in my A1200
« on: May 05, 2006, 01:58:25 PM »
I just got a Blizzard 1260 with 64MB RAM from AmigiKit.com (Great company by the way) and I installed it last night but when I boot up I get a software error and the computer will never come up.  I tried removing the 64MB RAM and got the same error.  The computer boots up fine with the card removed.

I have an Amiga 1200 with 3.1 ROM's and 3.1 Workbench and a 4GB hard drive.

Any help would be appreciated.  :)

Did you install the libs first? Maybe download the latest libs first here.
If it still doesn't work the acceleratorcard maybe isn't fully inserted.

Hey,

I hope you did bend the metal shield in the 1200 a little. Sometimes is presses down on the side were the connector is solderd to causing a short circuit. Which in your case can resust in a GURU

shield metal > ---------|
motherboard >  --------()--------- < turbo card

I hope these ASCII signs make sence to it all.

Oh there is also some revision 1200 Mainbord which doesn't work very well with turbo cards. As i remember it was the REV B

Have a look for 1200 timing errors with regards to this.

Also, I think it generally works best to take the computer apart to fit the turbo card.  I noticed with mine, the card had to be stressed to fit through the trapdoor hole.  Openning the computer will also give you a better idea if there may be anything else fouling the components.
Good good study, day day up!

Although the English isn't perfect, this is a very good point.  This is very likely the number one reason why trapdoor cards fail to work on an A1200 the first time they're installed.

The expansion connector could have contacts with a light covering of corrosion. It might help to insert, remove and re-insert the card and make sure it is parallel and fitting snug.

I cut my shielding back when I had a Blizzard 1230-IV but in reality the shield is nowhere near the Blizzard. The connector is surrounded by a black plastic block.

If you have a hard disk on the internal interface then try removing this and testing (my 1230-IV hated an old Quantum Daytona Go-Drive 2.5").

Try also, removing and refitting the SIMM and taking away all things that could drain power from the motherboard (flicker-fixers, joysticks, PCMCIA cards etc.)

I'm using an older more powerful A500 power supply.  I've purchased several A500 power supplies from Ebay to keep as spares.

I wish I had bought that Bigfoot that was on Ebay a short while back.

i think that a500's psu isn't enough if you have lot's of hardware connected.
