X-Surf not recognized/recognized but not working
« on: May 04, 2006, 08:47:10 AM »
I saw some threads on this subject on AO but no solutions yet.

I cannot get my X-Surf card to work in my A4000D. The card works in my A2000 though. Sometimes the X-Surf is not recognized in the early startup menu. Sometimes it is. But even if ShowConfig reports the board with the right specs, I get an error on trying to open de x-surf.device.
A4000D specs: Cyberstorm MK II 060 with CyberSCSI, Cybervision 64/3D and X-Surf. No IDE disks. 3.1 ROM's and OS3.9.

Any hints would be very welcome!

I've had the same problem, sometimes detection worked and sometimes it didn't. I solved it by putting the card in my other A4000D. I'm not sure wat caused the problem nor did I bother to fix it. Perhaps it has got something to do with buster version ?

Hi,

What you tell me also sound like the same problem i had with my towerised 4000. I could not open the device so i installed the boingbag updates 1 and 2. The problem was gone. However i can't explain why your card is not detected right away. Buster rev 9?? rev 11 should do the trick.

Leo,

That really suck's then, i guess you don't have a spare daugtherboard to check if it make's a difference? Still it is kind a strange having the card not seen at boot.

What stack are you using? Gensis, Miami? If using anything other than Miami, I'd recommend trying the Miami Demo version. For the life of me I could never get Genesis to do diddly squat(with a prommy/rtl8029AS that is) :-x

@redrumloa: I use AmiTCP. I don't believe that has anything to do with the problem. The hardware-interface is not recognized.
Error message from AmiTCP when running startnet is:
OpenDevice: Device or unit failed to open
Interface x-surf not found!
Interface x-surf configuration failed!
Stopping AmiTCP

Thanks anyway for thinking with me!

@leofoe

Yeah, very close to the message I used to get when I'd try Genesis with Prommy/rtl8029AS. I'd still say try the Miami Demo to see if it just works.

@redrumloa: to do you a favor I installed Miami. Running MiamiInit responds with:

Miami is unable to open
device 'Devs:networks/X-surf.device' unit 0.
The device might be in use.
Error 0.

x-surf.device must be lowercase

@Framiga: The filename was X-surf.device. Changed to lower case: no difference.

does xsurftest respond? (without run AmiTCP)

Next step, contact Jens S.

AFAIK there are some rare issues, due XSurf autoconfig and ZIII cards.

@Framiga: I do not have xsurftest. Cannot find it on the net either. Bought this card secondhand w/o software. If someone could supply it, I would be grateful.

download the latest driver from Here

and read the doc about the Sana2 variable.

The installation CD is ~ 8MB in size. Contact me privately, if you want it as ISO.
