How much is my stuff worth?
« on: April 27, 2006, 08:50:51 AM »
Hi everybody.

I`ve not been on here in a loooooong time! Been very busy lately.

All my Amiga stuff seems to have gone bad. My A1200 was as good as it could have got, until it started fading out, one peice at a time. I think my PPC board and all its attachments still works though. Its the 240Mhz one with SCSI, Blizzard graphics card and 256mb of RAM. My AmigaOne needs money spending on it to get it to work. It also has problems. (long story). Also my PSION 5mx needs either replacing or repairing. Basically I need to get some money to get my A1 or PSION going again. Just wondering how much you think it would be worth, if I did try to sell it. I hate the idea, but I can`t really use it anymore   If I could get my A1 going I`d be very happy  :-D

Thanks

Can you be a little more specific?

The classic market seems to be pretty good at the moment, I'm sure that someone on here will be able to give you a decent idea.  It seems though (and I'm far from an expert on this) that you should be able to get a decent price on the PPC (assuming it all works well).  It's seems like usually you can get more if you sell parts seperately.

As for the classic parts it can bring you some cash, but most buyers would want proof that the cards are actually working.

If you sell the BPPC and the BVision along with the 256 MB ram it should be able to fetch around £200 on eBay if it's a 040 model, plenty more if it is a 060 model.

But why not rebuild the A1200? If you are certain the BPPC and BVision are working, it can't cost much to replace a faulty motherboard? Or what is the problem with the computer?

My AmigaOne looks like it needs a new CPU module.

Today my sodding PC seems to have died. Not having much luck with computers lately!

As for rebuilding my A1200. I would like to, but just don`t have the time, (being self employed now). The keyboard adaptor has died too. If I can just get my A1 working I will be able to get back into using Amigas again. I want to use an Amiga which works with minum effort. My A1200 has been losing its marbles for the last few years now. I just want a computer which works!

We may have to buy a new PC, as we need to use it for our business, (me and my girlfriend).

Its weird posting here again, after so long. :-)

It sounds to me like you have some bad power issues given how meny things are dying on you. Have you thought of getting a good UPS and surge protector for your computer equipment?
Amiga 2000HD Indivision ECS
Amiga 4000D towerised OS 3.1 and 3.9 on CF cards
Indivision AGA, Mediator 4000
Video Toaster 4000 Flyer v4.3 Millenium.
202gig of video drive space & 5gig audio.

Hi everybody.

I don`t think its anything to do with power. For a start we`ve just moved and my proper A1200 "died" before moving, and the PC only had "software" (XP) problems, which will be sorted eventually. We got another PC anyway. The old one will just be a backup. My PSION may have got water in it, not sure. All completely unrelated problems. My A1200 may work if I had the time, though the keyboard adaptor seems to have died completely.

Hello Uncharted, been a while. I think the PC died of shock when I posted here.

most computer problems can be trace back to bad power supply problems. Since it sounds like your computer problems happen in a short period of time you should consider a battery backup power supply.

Oddly enough I was about to post a very similar question. I count 7 Amigas here and I can't tell you the last time I booted one up, which is so very sad, but then I have a heck of a lot on my plate at this point in time. My wife is going to retire in a couple of years and I am retired now (and disabled with a blown back) so I putter around the yard and studio but sitting for long periods is pretty painful and trying to figure out what the heck is wrong with the A4000/040 or the A3000 requires swapping parts and testing batteries and trying to figure out where the heck the one screw fell.... you all know what I mean. But I have a very nice A4000/CSPPC060 which boots every time, a very unusual A4000T that boots every time and a relatively nice A2000/030. I am unable to solve the "getting online" problem with any of them... yeah I checked all the articles and back postings and tried it all and I think it just isn't going to happen. Besides which the only reason I wanted online was to make it easier to DL files and progs, which I now transfer with a Ami2PC cable. The A2000 was for my wife to play old games with but most of the floppies are DOA and she's moved on to Soduko and online games that won't run on Amigas anyway. So besides the unique tower (the Beast) I don't really (dare I say it?) have any use for all these wonderful machines and their parts buddies. So I'm thinking about selling them. My '98 Volvo just blew a radiator, My daughter will be graduating next year and thus paying back her many student loans. I'm thinking it might be time to purge the house of toys... except maybe the Beast... and move on to a more appropriate level of play, one befitting a 56 year old man with a busted back and fixed income.
