blizzard information
« on: April 24, 2006, 02:18:52 PM »
This problem is formiliar to me, but I have all the stuff on my Miggy (squirle etc) but the cd-drive was not found error!!
My power supply burned out its socket!
I use a re-build PC power supply to use the cd-drive, but thrue PCMCIA nothing is recornized.
How to set an Amiga to 'see' this drive?  :-?

I also read about the jumper setting on the Blizzard.
Where can I find this jumper?

Your PSU blew and now the PCMCIA CD-ROM won't mount? Is it one of those Zappo/Overdrive things?

The jumper on the Blizzard 1230 (at least the 1230-IV) should be 2 metal pins near the SIMM socket. If you want to use the extra SIMM slot on the SCSI-IV kit then you have to connect the 2 pins with the tiny plastic 'jumper' block. This will slow down memory access to 70ns.

This jumper must also be bridged if you use a 70ns SIMM as opposed to a 60ns SIMM. 80ns is not reccomended... you can usually tell the speed of your 72-pin SIMM by looking at the code on the DRAM chips: if it ends with -6 it'll be 60ns, -7 will be 70ns.

In order for a PCMCIA CD-ROM (or any CD-ROM on Amiga) to be recognised it will need to use something like AmiCDFS/AsimCDFS and have CD0: in Devs:DosDrivers/

To check your SIMM details here's an identification guide:

Format :        XXX AA BB CC D -EE

XXX: Manufacturers Identification Code:
MB:  Fujitsu
GM:  Goldstar/LGS
HM:  Hitachi
HY:  Hyundai
MT:  Micron
M5M: Mitsubishi
MCM: Motorola
uPD: NEC
MSM: OKI
MN:  Panasonic/Matsushita
KM:  Samsung/SEC
K:   Samsung/SEC  (new code)
LH:  Sharp
HYB: Siemens/Infineon
TMS: Texas Instruments
TC:  Toshiba

AA : Total Number of Megabits:
                 1 :   1 MBit
                 4 :   4 MBit
                16 :  16 MBit/4k  Refresh
                17 :  16 MBit/2k  Refresh
                18 :  16 MBit/1k  Refresh

BB : Internal Organization (Data Width):
                10 :   1 Bit  (1 MBit Chips: 0 = 1 Bit)
                40 :   4 Bit
                80 :   8 Bit
                16 :  16 Bit

CC : I/O Mode:
     0 :      Fast Page Mode (FPM)
     1 :      Nibble Mode (NM)
     2 :      Static Column Mode (SCM)
     3 - 9 :  Fast Page Mode mit Extended Data Out (EDO)

D :  Package Information:
                J:     SOJ- package.
                T:     TSOP Type-II package

EE : Access time in nano seconds. Sometimes the zero is omitted. In that case the number should be multiplied by 10 so that the speed falls into the 30 to 150ns range.

Examples:
TC51 1 0 00 -60  --> Toshiba,  1MB, 1bit (1Mx1), FPM, 60ns
HYB51 4 4 00 -60 --> Siemens,  4MB, 4bit (1Mx4), FPM, 60ns
HM51 18 16 0 -6  --> Hitachi, 16MB/1k refresh, 16bit (1Mx16),FPM, 60ns
