Mines been fine since day one - the only flakiness is getting the USB to pop up when I power up the Hub.
everything else is fine.

It didn't die of it's own accord - I killed it.

Did you really though

Most definitely. I replaced the fan with a heatsink but didn't secure it properly, resulting in no cooling.
Entirely my own fault.
Bear in mind I had the thing for a few years by this point.

Hardware compared to hardware, personally I'd trust the Pegasos more.

Couldn't agree more. It's a far more elegant machine and totally silent.

Software to software (OS4 - MOS), both look to be DOA.

This is the kicker for me. The latest update of OS4 means I no longer need MOS. In my opinion OS4 is now a much nicer environment than MOS. At the risk of sounding like a sad tadger I'd even go as far as to say it is more amiga-like.
There is now only one thing I can think of that I can use my Pegasos for but not my A1 - Pro Station Audio.
If I don't punt the Pegasos, PSA will be the sole reason.

But anyhow, don't get me wrong. I'm sure it's probably fun to tinker with:-) Keep and use what you want. I'm glad it's working again for you.

Cheers. I'm still astonished at how well HD-Rec seems to work.
(Crashes out opn my Peg after one play, rendering it almost, but not quite unusable.)

I can now use my A1 as a multitracker/fx box/etc....

I have not heard of that many amigaones dying by itself?? Most of the people who had damaged their amigaone had either overclocked the cpu or there was some problem with the cooling that made the cpu overheat.

I'm under the impression that they are quite flakey and prone to failure. I would never buy one, but I won't say much more. Personal opinions have gotten me labeled a Genesi employee (not on AO) in the past.

The chipset on it mai+via 686b is indeed causing some issues as they are extremly buggy. But i have not heard about any other serious issues. I myself would as well get the Pegasos if it ran OS4. Sadly i dont expect that to happen due to certain nazi licensing issues with AmigaINC.

It's all perception. When my Pegasos arrived it was faulty and was eventually replaced. The new one has worked beautifully ever since. When my A1 arrived it was fine but could only run linux. Then it ran OS4 beautifully until Hogmanay, when the fan went.

Having had experience of both sides of this particular coin I would say that both machines are nice and, while I'd love to see OS4 on the Peg, it isn't going to happen anytime soon.
Given the above, I prefer the A1.

My MicroA1-c just locks up on occasion.  It's either the core voltage or the fan-cooler.  I'm probably going to replace the PPC 750FX with something G4-level after the announced CPU-modules come out in June.  Then I should be able either to use it or sell it and buy a PowerVixxen LT for my A1200.

I bought it when it looked like the Micros had the bugs fixed that the XEs had.  It seems that I was wrong about the Micros but I'm still happy with the AmigaOS 4.0 prereleases.

do you have the NEWEST OS4 release - there's been several updates, and YES they all make a big difference.
The amiga meeting I attend have a beta tester so we get to see the OS develop nearly right in front of our eyes. (on a monthy basis, of course    )

just last friday I had a look and plugged my USB flash drive and, removed it, plugged it back in, and it worked just dandy.
the no CARB diet- no Cheney, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld or Bush.

I just tried this with the front USB ports on my A1. Using the bottom port, I could plug and unplug my smartcard reader and copy and delete files, no problem.
Using the top port I get a message saying the device could not be mounted.
Not a problem for me. I'll just use the bottom port.

Now I'm just trying to figure out how to get the screen blanker working.

Why would you say that OS4 and MOS are "DOA" they are both being developed atm...

@ Wilse congrats. Thank GOD for this repair center. Amazing that Eyetech wont honor warranties on those $900 prototype boards...

Ok I'll bite. When will either receive a commercial release? When will MOS receive a significant update? When will OS4 have available hardware to run on? Not talk, hard facts please. I just don't see either as anything more than a curiosity anymore, as much as I hate to say it. AROS seems to have more of a future. BTW I'm not saying to stop using what someone has, I'm just saying I don't see either progressing at all from this point.

Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

I'm not sure if you're being deliberately disingenius or if you really think my 12 month warranty should last for five years.

My A1 lasted well past it's warranty expiration and my heatsink/fan shenanigans would probably have made it void anyway, so *Please* stop spreading BS. ;-)

Hmmn, I wonder if the timing of the botched fan job is a coincidence ;-)

The timing of the fan stopping working probably had a lot to do with the fact that my house had something like 60 *very* wasted people in it at the time and the A1 was being used for the music, via "amp".

The botched repair occurred a week or so later.

Just because there is no "commercial release" doesnt mean an OS project is DOA this goes for both os4 and MOS. Though without a HW platform OS4 isnt looking promising for the future  :((

@ Wilse

Well as you know even if it WAS within 12 months we all know that Eyetech doesnt honor the warranty. And I will add the bplan repairs peg boards free of charge well after warranty.... so bs that.

Magnetic, please stop trying to harass A1 owners on every thread you come across.
