Amiga Music/Sequencer Programs
« on: November 11, 2002, 09:19:15 PM »
I've been thinking about a Delfina lately...anybody here know if theres any good software to take advantage of it? I guess MIDI and digital ports come with it...how cool!

My main interest would be a good sequencer program.

I've been trying to get hold of a competent replacement for CueBass on the Amiga.

The closest I can make out to this appears to be HD-Rec, http://www.hd-rec.de/
Even though, I've never used this program, by the look of things it appears to have enough to get me making a racket.

I mailed the author a few months ago & was told to hang in there as he is adding final touches. But, as I said, that was a while ago now.

He might just be waiting for OS4. I suppose I should ask instead of guessing.

Anyway, other than HD-Rec... What is there..? Bars & Pipes maybe, I'm not too keen on the interface. Camouflage, (I think that's how it's spelt) but I haven't tried that yet. Er... Now I'm struggling.

Although I will ask (I know it's the wrong thread but still) does anyone know if there is a real AtariST emulator on the Amiga, I'd love to ditch the bloomin thing & run CueBass on my Amiga. Failing that, I'll get iFusion (Not spelt with a Z') & run the Mac version.

An ST emulator for the Amiga? That would be fun!

Have you tried Reason on the Mac? Seems like a good program to me.

I wouldn't get my hopes up (but I did, argh), the guy who's making it is an Amithlon person, I'm not sure if he's even interested in OS4.    :-(

Audio Evolution might be worth checking out too, if you're into hard disk recording. Though it doesn't sound like there are any plans for a sequencer in there any time soon, but as I understand it the plan is to connect it to Bars & Pipes and use its sequencer for MIDI and virtual instruments later on (maybe?). Maybe Davy Wentzler could correct me here if he reads it? I know he's around here sometimes.

Something like Cubase (not CueBass  ;-) ) or Emagic's Logic or even Reason would be very nice to have on the miggy, but I don't see it happening any time soon.
Not Logic anyway, since Emagic have been bought by Apple and even ditched the Windows platform
I don't know about Cubase though, what's its status on the Atari? Is it still being developed? Maybe there is some hope there somewhere (way) down the road.

What I really want is virtual instruments (VSTi or something similar), there's an area where the Amiga is lacking. But it may be down to processor power, some of them are quite power hungry because they rely on the cpu to render the sounds as opposed to just playing a sample. Maybe there's hope with the AmigaOne.

Thanks, I'll check that stuff out. I really just need a MIDI port and decent sequencer, and a soundcard would help. It's too bad, the Delfina seems so nice..but there's not much software to utilize it.

Regarding Trackers, the guys behind Renoise may be planning a port to AmigaOS4. (I asked them, and got almost instant reply that it was under consideration.)

Check out Renoise at Renoise.com

True. I wrote a small library to synchronize applications. I added support for this in AE4 and Alfred Faust is now working on it for B&P. In this way you can use your favourite audio app with your favourite MIDI app, if both have support for this library of course.  The integration will be such that if you press play in one app, the other will start as well, after making sure that data is pre-loaded, to provide optimal sync. There can be even more than 2 apps connected to the server (video, audio, MIDI, ...). Now we only need multiple monitor support...  :-D

Concerning VSTi: I have no knowledge on writing virtual instruments, but in the future I might write an open plug-in architecture for other 3rd parties to use.

Kind regards,

Davy
