Blizzard PPC upgrade 040 to 060
« on: April 11, 2006, 11:54:53 AM »
Sorry everyone,
repeating thread here, i need some links for destructions, erm, i mean instructions on how to convert a blizz PPC from 040 to 060, i know there was another thread here about this ages ago, but i can't seem to find it :/ or the websites i've seen with pictures and explainations of the jumper settings

i just need the voltage regulator jumpers, as its a 25Mhz 040, so it already has the needed 50Mhz oscillator for the 060.

Thanks again for your time.

**EDIT**

please delete this thread, i think i have found what i need.

thank you! :) you're a bunch of life savers you lot.

given that i havn't done any soldering before in my life, i am going to give this to someone who has, hence detailed instructions... unless there is someone in the UK who has done this before... will cross palms with silver if there is...  :-D

I have, but it took HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS!!
Also, there really is a risk of damaging the finer traces whilst doing the desoldering work - whilst I was nervous about damaging my own board, I really wouldn't want to damage someone else's.
Any advice I can give is yours though.

You can easily build a socket using lines of connector blocks - much safer than soldering the 060 in to the board, and less chance of damaging the CPU during the work.

Good luck!

Also - be VERY gentle when moving the SMD components - the solder pads tear very easily.
Mac Mini G4 (1.5GHz, 64MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.6
Powerbook 5.8 (15", 1.67GHz, 128MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.8.

amigacenter can do that for 150 euros, and its work is given with 3 or 6 month of warranty.
Keep the Faith !
