Rev D. A4000D motherboard, how better is it ?
« on: April 09, 2006, 05:25:42 PM »
Hi. Was the "cost reduced version" (CR) any better ?
I mean, even being aimed at reducing production costs maybe there were some other things that were improved (or worse)?

 I know the battery backed up clock is better cause it uses coin shape batteries that normally don't leak.
Anything else ? The chips are the same so any bugs most still be there not ?
....
BTW amiga.resource.cx has also listed a rev. D motherbord besides the rev. D cost reduced one, was this a different version or it's a mistake ?

well..and it doesn't have a simm socket for the chipram.
Chipram is surface mounted on the mobo
The kickstart rom chips are also located on a different place on the mobo compared to the other A4000 models
My towered A4000 is the CR model.

I meant the differences in the design quality.
BTW it also has a socket for an FPU.

However according to amiga.resource.cx there was also an 040 version of this board, without the soldered 030 or FPU socket wich also MISSED the 50mhz oscillator or socket for it needed when replacing the A3640 for an asynchronous processor board.
Most Cyberstorms were ashynchronous right ?

@ Jose

Not sure about that synchronous stuff, but if there is a problem, the fellow in France who does Amiga repairs could probably install the sockets and oscilators for you. (Expensive, I know, but arguably better than an unaccelerated board)

@Matt
Jean Jacques ? Yeah, I've used his services and he does an excellent job, expensive though. Depending on the case, it might be better just to buy another motherboard off eBay.
