LCD TVs/Monitors
« on: April 02, 2006, 11:00:23 PM »
Well my Commodore 1942 has just given up the ghost, so I'm after getting a new monitor for my A1200.

I know there was a thread on here a little while back about using and LCD TV on the amiga for games.  As I don't have a graphics card, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with LCD TVs, and how well Workbench and applications are displayed with them through an Amiga RGB to Scart adapter?  I only really use PAL: Hires for Workbench and Hires Interlaced for a few apps such as Ibrowse.  Would the picture be as sharp as on my old Commodore 1942?

I don't know any LCD TVs for Amiga, but I saw one in Amiga.org's image gallery...

I guess you have three options.

1)use a TFT with scart entry : expensive
2)use an internal scandoubler and a normal tft : expensive
3)use an external scandoubler and a normal tft : expensive

I have got such an external scandoubler for sale at the moment but those appear often enough at Ebay or you can still buy them new under the name Indivision or Toastscan ...

_yak_:  Yeh I saw that picture of the LCD, looks good for running games, just wondered how well they would handle higher resolution screens in workbench.

Effy:  Would like an external scadoubler, just they are so expensive, and I've heard they don't show HAM8 with all the colours?

Also I've noticed some LCD monitors (not TVs) have S-video in, would these work with the amiga?

@jimmy
That's my monitor :-) It's great for games and Workbench. There's a picture here of it displaying my Workbench.

Motorollin:  Yeh it looks good through your Voodoo, have you tried workbench in AGA to see how well it looks though?  (I got no GFX card for my A1200 :( )

I haven't tried Workbench in AGA on this screen, but judging from the way games look (i.e. excellent) it should look great.

I'll try booting from my recovery disk which is in an interlaced PAL screenmode and let you know how it looks.
