HELP!!! Installing Roms into 1200 problem!
« on: March 30, 2006, 06:33:10 PM »
I just bought the 3.1 roms... Removed the old ones and now I realise that the sockets are bigger than the roms..

Which side should be empty? I have no instructions!

I would search for pics of A1200 motherboards to see how the ROMs are oriented to be 100% sure!

If you place the motherboard so you have the accelerator expansion port on the right, and the PCMCIA port on the left, you will need to have the empty holes on the left handside.

When you say that "the sockets are bigger than the roms" how much bigger are you saying?
Are you sure that the roms you have are the right ones for the A1200?
Amiga 2000HD Indivision ECS
Amiga 4000D towerised OS 3.1 and 3.9 on CF cards
Indivision AGA, Mediator 4000
Video Toaster 4000 Flyer v4.3 Millenium.

I can't get them in. They seem to fit on the top but not quite at the bottom... is there a knack to this?

It seems like the pins need slight bending inwards to fit.

Anyone fitted these things before?

Yes I have countless times, it is the easiest upgrade to do on the Amiga!  Make sure all the pins are straight and just line the chip in the socket, then make 100% sure all the pins are in the holes before pressing down. Or you will bend and break the pins!

Yup, it's typical of any new DIP chip to have to bend the legs to fit the socket.

I normally just fold them back one side at a time on a hard surface. Just put one side of the chip on a table and *gently* push the chip to bend the legs slightly, then do the same on the other side.
On schedule, and suing

Ah well applying pressure is something I understand...

Now in!

I bet I have broken them!
