Building a fakeamiga by an a old pc
« on: March 29, 2006, 09:06:43 PM »
Im new here, but I have a Amiga 500 sinces my childhood.
I really love that computer, I used to played on it everyday, but nowdays I play it sometimes.

I also like to build custombuild computers...

the questions is: Can I build a pc-hardwarebased computer that act like a amiga ( run amiga apps & games ), read disks and cds for amigas. I have a huge collection of games for my amiga 500, is it possible to use them for a pchardwarebased computer? If it work, how can a do it?

I will know how far I can make a pc work like a amiga, and what things who is impossible to make the pc do that amiga can do..

The powwa from amigagames are with u...

For many months now I have been thinking about building a machine like that too. WinUAE can emulate the NumLock LED on the keyboard to blink like the original power on LED and diskdrive activity. It can also as probably everybody knows emulate the sound of a disk being read.

Catweasel PCI so you can read Amiga floppy discs.

I have AUEemulator and some roms ( the roms are same as my orginal games on my amiga, so this may not be illegal then I have licens for them ).
But its not fun like real stuff, but I think it will be more fun if I using a homemade Amigaclone instead a emulator on my windows-pc..

How Can I get more info about that PCI-amigadisk-for-pc-thing. ;-)

Some game consoles used rom cartridges for games. Amiga used floppies. Amiga game images are not ROMs.

So true. try to save your game in a ROM :-) (for those images having space for savegames)

my yeahman,

posibble but not yet possible due lack of software like a dosuae version supporting variety of resoluutions and the catweasel mk4 in a good way

so if u wanna run in a pc a descent emulation you need to start windows first and then winuae

when anyone makes and advanced uae version like advanced mame everybody can built your own fake amiga using pc hardware and software but now it's not possible

bye, Laser

I understand that with AUE, its need windows to boot up, and thats very boring and not so amiga-likeit.
But is it possible to install AmigaOS into a pc, then run software who are for amiga?

where is the token AROS fan when you need one?   Personally its not worth building a clone.. just get a decent PC and run Amiga Forever.

edit: I just took a look at Amikit.. it looks pretty good.. its in the news on AO's main page.

I have some old pc-computers under my bed, and even it will take a year to make it smell more like a amiga, it worth it!

That AROS-os, can I install that on a ordinary pc and just use what amiga-app and games I want in it?
If so, I wanna know How I get this AROS. And what hardware it support.

You can install AROS on to a PC's hard disk and boot it directly, but you can't play any of your old Amiga games on AROS. You can install UAE inside AROS and use that to play your old games, but to be honest you would be better off using WinUAE as it will probably be faster and better supported than the version of UAE which is available for AROS.

You should look at the KXLight version of Amiga Forever. It's a bootable CD which basically contains Knoppix (a small version of Linux) which then immediately loads Amiga Forever. This way you can boot directly in to an emulated AmigaOS which will be capable of playing your old games. There is no reason why this could not be installed to a hard disk, but it may be a bit complicated.

DOSUAE hasn't been updated in years. Big improvements have been made in WinUAE since then. You would be better off installing a minimal install of Windows 98 (which will boot very quickly anyway), and replace explorer.exe with the WinUAE executable. That way when Windows loads it will immediately start WinUAE.
