Back to the old skool - new (old) user from UK!!!
« on: March 29, 2006, 10:20:39 AM »
Hi to everyone!

Owned an amiga500 since around 1990, although from 1997 onwards made transition to PC. Looking to make descent back to my 1st love. Although I dont own an amiga now, im looking to purchase a 1200 (most probably from Vesalia.de), with a view to get back to some 'good old fashioned gaming' and also to become more accustom with the amiga OS 1.3 environment.

Also just wondered if all my old amiga500 games are compatable with an amiga1200? or if anyone has any advice on an alernative option to buying a 1200?

cheers,

TwiloUK

PS my old fav games are: pirates, playermanager, kick-off2, sensible soccer, r-type, alian breed and stunt car racer to name a few. also love zipsticks!!!

Welcome back!

Most games are compatible with the A1200 although some do not like the AGA chipset.  However there are patches available for games to make them compliant.

Hi buy both, they use same connections for PSU/Video/mouse/joy... and it's easy to rebuild floppy from internet with A1200.

welcome back!  I'd suggest a nice A4000 to re-enter the Amiga world.

Welcome to A.Org!

I'd suggest an A1200, hard drive and 68030-based accelerator card as a good starting point. Using an application called WHDLoad, you'll be able to transfer many A500 and A1200 games from floppy disk to the Amiga's hard drive, giving you the best in retro-gaming without the hassle!

First of all I love the Opus avatar!  Bloomcounty and my Amiga are my 2 favorite things from the 80's!

I use my A1200 NTSC machine and I've yet to run across any of my old A500 games that don't work.  I understand that there are some out there I just haven't run across them.  I finally put my A1000 up and use my A1200 full time for retro-gaming and my A4000 for everything else.

AmigaKit.com has pretty much everything you need to outfit your Amiga.  I believe they are out of A1200's right now though.  :(

Amigakit or ebay

Doubt you'll find one 'brand new' though
I like Amigas
