IS SCSI DEAD? DOES SCSI DVD BURNER EXIST?
« on: March 29, 2006, 01:29:30 AM »
Hello All,

I would really love to get SCSI DVD Burner for A4000T if they exist? (But I have never seen one) I know I couldn't watch or burn movies, all I want is to back up data as I hate to say CD's are getting bit small now.Could IDE DVD Burner be connected instead and is there any burning software out there for the Amiga? I do Video Editing and at the moment I use U/W Scsi Hard Drives as way to backup my work.I like to hear your comments. Thanks in advance Merv

I use a pioneer DVD-305S so i don't have a writer anymore. Used to have a panasonic one, but it broke :-( Use Amiga explorer for my back up needs.Need a Wintelbox for that though.Keep looking. In Norway you can get hold of one without to much hassle.

SCSI DVD burners do exist but they are exspencive. Your looking at at least double the price for a comparable unit. There is an adapter you can get to use an IDE burner on a SCSI chain.
Amiga 2000HD Indivision ECS
Amiga 4000D towerised OS 3.1 and 3.9 on CF cards
Indivision AGA, Mediator 4000
Video Toaster 4000 Flyer v4.3 Millenium.
202gig of video drive space & 5gig audio.

I wonder if scsi2ide adapter would work with optical devices too? Or does it only work with harddrives?

Here you go:

Pioneer DVR-S201 Pro

The ONLY 1 in the world on eBay at the mo.
How fat is your wallet?  :-D

Consider 1 hour Burn times :-( (file-size depending) for a 4.37Gb Disk. Also software is real basic for the Amiga needing you to use cli-type commands to burn.

Tape backup would be far cheaper & quicker using incremental backups for changing data. :-)

the ide2scsi adapters should be able to support optical devices. i'm thinking of getting a couple from vesalia soon, as i am starting to loose my rag with my FastATA thing. then i'll be able to put my drive and DVD on my blizzard instead if all goes well.

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.
and probably just like the rest of you, crates full of related "treasure" for the above XD

Someone is selling a Pioneer DVD S201 external SCSI DVD burner locally.

I was wondering:

1) How much I should offer for it?
2) Would Frying Pan burn DVDs on it?
3) Are there any other Amiga DVD burning programs for an external SCSI DVD burner?

Thanks in advance,
Jay

Cheaper and more effective to get a USB solution and a few 4-8gb memory sticks.

I'd use a couple of HDDs - 18 gig or less are usually so cheap - and reusable - that DVDs aren't really worth the trouble...

A little over 23 pounds isn't that expensive, imo.
Life sucks. Then you die. Then they throw mud in your face. Then you get eaten by worms. Be happy it happens in that order... My Amiga 1200

DVD-RAM for SCSI are available and I have an external one. Cheaper would be an IDE used off the ide connector. I have an SATA off my Mediator in OS4.1. There are several CD burning programs, don't know why they would not work with a DVD burner.

even on "modern" OS's I have given up on optical storage... all backups are on external HD's and/or a NAS. Get a USB card instead I would suggest
