How much longer do we have to wait?
« on: February 14, 2006, 04:02:00 PM »
Right I'm fed up with waiting for "the new Amiga".  I've been waiting since 1995 for something new and great.

Does anyone have a clue about how much longer we have to wait?  I'm sick of the politics, and just want a new Amiga.  I.e. Motherboard and OS!

Love a definite date!

Imagine yourself waiting for a bus at an old bus stop, but nothing is coming.
You hear rumors from other people passing by there might be a bus coming. Still nothing comes.
After an hour or so people are mostly capable of drawing their own conclusions.

You have been waiting for ELEVEN years and you still ask us?

LOL!

Erno

Are we all doomed!?  AOS4 will never be released, another dodgy geezer buys the AOS rights, hardware is poor and OS is never "quite" finished.  So in the end nothing happens.  Just more farting around with annoucements and rubbish.  Can't we have some honesty?

Or...AOS finally gets released, Hyperion go back to port mac/linux games?  What a state where in.

Sorry, I don't mean to moan.

You almost make it sound as if there were no OS4 at all, but the lucky ones with hardware, and I mean every one of them, all have a quite complete operating system.

Or are you more the kind that won't buy a thing unless it's shrinkwrapped on the shelf? (I know lots of people have bad experiences with beta versions, etc)

These are interesting times we live in. New machines in progress, new AmigaOS in progress.. userbase slowly, slowly growing..  which is a success in itself.

To take the "Bus Stop" analogy further I would suggest that like me you walk down to the local car dealership and buy a car. It may be more stressful and harder to use but at least you will have transport. Then after twenty years or so if you read in the newspapers that the buses are running again consider going back.

Dont wait for the bus. There has not been one for ten years and one is not likely for another ten.

Would be nice if it was shrinkwrapped.  But being able to buy AOS4 and hardware in the first place would be nice!  The lucky few are, very lucky!

Is there any Hyperion commentry, on how the hardware sides of things is going?  The obvious way to recoup the development costs!

I heard they were testing out hydrogen buses, but they're very expensive, and hard to build.  Nevermind the maglev trains which are running on the other side of town.

The bus already came by three times.  If you didn't want to catch the AmigaOneSE, you could have got the AmigaOneXE.  After that, you had plenty of time to get a Micro AmigaOne.  You are waiting because you did not want to get on the bus.
There are already many satisfied customers including myself.  I love OS4, and use it every day.  Whatever the next hardware is that supports OS4, I will buy it to have a second machine.  I hope you also come and enjoy when you get another opportunity.  - Lars

Hah, that's true. I didn't think of it like that. Then not to forget the different production runs, they weren't all made in one go either.

@logicalheart

The bus came quite a few times but was sabotaged by the driver (alan redhouse), now that piece of garbage has (hopefully) left the Amiga scene, new hardware can come out and people can be happy again.

AmigaOne = Bus....more like pic below as an Omnibus in Stealth.

I have a Copy of Interface Age by my side here with a lovely pictures of a computers and boards that drove the Wild West of the personal computer industry. Companies that risked all to get a finger in the pie of the modern age. $400s for this $400 dollars for that that like the minimig today, people doing it out of love and the hope of breaking even. Most blown to the winds and lost for eternity.

Yet some we know today, Apple, Intel and M$ and even Commodore...They all took risks with their products. Where they right to risk or should they have released a limited number, got them manufactured overseas, live off the hype fail to deliver the dream.

I know the garage based computer companies are a thing of the past, its all business, profit and promotion. But there is hope.....I have no doubt there will be an other Apple another Commodore maybe, it just needs a reason for it to happen, maybe someone one day might take that risk and clean up all the way.
