DataFlyer 1000 HD and RAM expansion
« on: April 16, 2003, 05:25:37 AM »
I have 2 old Amiga 1000 computers that I've been slowly trying to tweek.  For one of them I bought a Dataflyer 1000 RAM expansion sometime back in the early 1990s and then added a HD controller, and 8 MB of RAM about 4 years ago.  I left my other 1000 as it was for some time, but I've recently run accross another Dataflyer 1000, but this time it has no RAM expansion, only the controller and HD.  Does anyone know if the Dataflyer 1000 RAM expansion is identical to or compatible with the Dataflyer 500 RAM expansion?  Both use a type of "piggyback" system to interface with the HD controller.  Does anyone know where I may be able to find one of these RAM expansion cards new or used?

Thanks,
Sidewinder

I am not entirely sure but given the fact the Dataflyer 500 and Dataflyer 2000 are identical boards and the A1000 uses the same type of interface with nothing more than a reverse zorro interface I would find it hard to believe that Expansion Systems would have made another type of board.

Look inside the Dataflyer 1000 and see if the zorro board inside is connected to a small adapter. The A500 uses an extender adapter so it would not surprise me if the Dataflyer 1000 uses an adapter that reverses the pin order to be compatible. I would venture to guess that the Dataflyer 500/2000 and possibly the 1000 are the same board with different housings and adapters. I am using my Dataflyer 500 in my A4000.

Good luck
