WANTED: Amiga 1200, 4000, or 3000
« on: February 12, 2006, 06:18:18 PM »
I'm looking to buy one of the above systems, but I am not having much luck on ebay.  It looks like slim pickings, and when there is something available, it usually is either at an exorbitant price point or in such horrid condition that it just doesn't seem worth it.

If anyone can point me in a good direction, that would be welcome.  I should have held on to that 25MHz A3000 I had back in 98... but I got sucked into the PC world and didn;t think beofre I sold it.

where in the world are you, this is an international forum so it'd be nice to narrow down where you are for prospective sellers :)

There are new old stock A1200s available, along with refurbs at a cheaper price.   Check out AmigaKit.com. They build to your order.  I just ordered one last week with NTSC and a 40 gig hard drive!

You are not alone there... The only amiga i held onto was my a500. I just got myself my first towered a1200 just a few weeks back though. :-) Is only a a1200 with a blizzard 1220 28mhz with 4meg fast though, but i am probably going to invest on some upgrades later on.

Good luck on your search!

I'm in the US, and I just came across the AmigaKit website prior to seeing these replies.  I'll definately check that out for a NOS A1200!

no worries, just asking because if you were in a PAL TV area of the world I could help you out with an A2500, A3000 or A1200 with Blizzard 030 (IV) and SCSI (IV) with 256MB of RAM :)

Well, I just won an A3000 on ebay.  I was very torn as the seller was very slow in putting up a picture of the battery (even though I was an incessant nag for more pictures) and didn't put any information as to the processor or RAM configuration.  He did indicate, along with the "fuzzy" picture (ironic, isn't it) that there doesn't seem to be any corrosion.  The description also indicates it boots to a 1.3 screen which I find strange since the A3000 never came with 1.3 that I know of, but it could just be that 1.3 is installed on the HD or that's the floppy he booted with.

So, I am taking a leap of faith on this one for sure...

I also won an auction for 2 A500's

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8762197898&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

So I'm sure I'll have a lot to do in the next few weeks...

Early A3ks came with a 'Superkickstart', that loaded a Kickstart image from HDD prior to booting. You could choose whether you wanted 1.3 or 2.x. The Superkickstart floppy disk held both a 1.3 and a 2.04.

The built-in ROM actually is a 1.4 - you can see it if you hit the (invisible) close gadget of the selection window (accessible when holding both mouse buttons on power up).  :-)

Well, as I've posted Boogiegail is sloooowww to deliver and doesn't communicate too well but I got my A4000 Friday and it was just as described.  Very nice A4000 for $475US.  I would buy from Boogiegail again but understanding that I'll have to keep following up to get my system.   :)

I took my pics and will post them shortly.

If everyone buying a new Amiga would take a look at their Agnus (if they have an Agnus) and report the numbers on the top of the chip to the following thread.

Pwease.
