Dual Boot AOS3.9 & AOS4.0 or MorphOS on CyberStormPPC Amiga???
« on: February 11, 2006, 04:21:03 PM »
How many here have set up their Classic Amigas to run the free release of MorphOS or pre-release of AmigaOS4.0 AND also still boot to another version of Amiga OS (3.1, 3.5, 3.9, ..... 1.3)from time to time?

My eBay CyberStorm PPC arrived yesterday and I am curious to see how AOS4.0 and/or MorphOS runs on a Classic Amiga, so I am planning on downloading and installing on a separate HD, then choosing from the early boot menu.

What is the best web browser available for MorphOS and/or AOS4.0?

How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

Should work. Just as long as each OS has it's own bootable partition. Use 3.1's boot menu to pick the partition you want to use.

You can only do MorphOS and 3.1+ at the moment though, since OS4 isn't available for Cyberstorms yet.

You might need to do a cold boot between switching OSes, depending on what gets loaded into resident memory.

I have OS3.9 and MorphOS running on my Amgia 4000. Each system has its own partition, the apps are on a shared partition. MOS has the highest prio so it will boot by default. If i want OS3.9 I can choose the partition in early startup menu.

The best Browser for both system would be Ibrowse, but latest AWeb isnt that bad.

mhhh . . .do you have BlizKick installed on AmigaOS?

I'm asking because if you set MOS as the highest priority on an A4000 without BK, booting then on AmigaOS3.9 will be a nightmare, due the dual reboot of AmigaOS3.9.

I'm still in an enviroment where, AmigaOS is the higher priority system and when i want to boot in MOS, i use the Early Boot priority option.

But you need double reboot only when booting first time to AmigaOS?

not sure about the question, anyway

I'm since the MOS-PuP release in an enviroment, where AmigaOS has the higher pri. (4)

Few days ago, i've tryed to set MOS as higher priority (testing) but i've noticed that if i wish to boot in AmigaOS3.9BB2 (using the Boot Menu) i'll achieve always MOS instead.

I thought thats quite normal, due the dual AOS3.9 SetPatch dual reboot.

To be honest, i haven't tweeked so much to fix the problem :-)

PS- probably i should enter in the Early Boot Menu twice but . . . its already OK for me.

EDIT- ah, forgot to mention that i have IDEFix installed on AmigaOS (LoadIDE)

Would a Kickflash board solve the problem? Installing the needed modules on this one, and then no extra reboot is requiered. I'm just wondering if the ROM Update from BB2 and additional modules will conflict with anything MOS related?

@Matt_H,

I thought there was a beta version of AOS4.0 that had been released for the Classic Amiga w/CyberStormPPC cards?  Maybe it was only for developers?  I'll have to do some research.

Sort of... this is what I use.
MOS will only boot from a plain, unaltered Kickstart3.1, so you need to put a switch on the Kickflash
(on the write-protect jumper. When open, the flash is write protected, and will be loaded on bootup. When closed, the flash is write enabled, and will not be loaded on bootup. This can be hot-switched, but MOS requires a cold boot after running OS3.9 in order to get rid of the rekicked Kickstart from the Kickflash).

And btw, totally OT, but MOS supports 100mbit (RTL8139) network cards on Grex4000's with it's included driver.

How fast is it? Did you also try MOSnet?

Nope, will try it sometime.

Haven't done any speed tests yet (my Amiga is currently 'under construction', should be up&running sometime next week), but it seems very fast with Genesis. I'll try MOSNet when I get it running again. (I'm also gonna buy a new RTL8139D card, to see if it works better with the OpenPCI driver than my old RTL8139A card. They're dead cheap anyway).
