4 IDE-Adapter doesn't work...
« on: February 11, 2006, 01:46:48 PM »
Hi, all.

I'm using 4 IDE drives adapter in my A1200, but only two
drives can be useable, can anyone help?

In s:startup-sequence,
  C:IDEFix
  C:SetPatch SKIPROMUPDATES "scsi.device" QUIET
is written, and scsi.device is patched as V119.4 by IDEFix.

I connected two IDE drives to first port (master and
slave), and one ATAPI CD-ROM drive to second port (master).
But only two IDE drives are auto mounted, but no CD-ROM.

I tried to see device list with HDToolBox, but only 0 and 1
device id was scanned. I remove second IDE harddrive(slave)
and put CD-ROM drive on there (first port slave), CD-ROM
can be usable with L:CDCacheFS.

Why scsi.device #2 and #3 can not be useable?
What is probrem? Can anyone help?

Drives on the 2 ports are not automounted on Earlykick..
that's normal
but if you have well installed the licenced release of IDEFIX, you will acces to the 2nd port.
What can you see with the IDEFIX "find device" programm on atapi.device and scsi.device ?

Odaman,

The problem may be with having the CD-ROM jumpered as Master and being the only drive on the second channel. Try without jumpers and see. I used to see this problem with PCs and some harddrives. If it was jumpered to master and the only one on the channel, the PC did not see the HD. Removing the jumper made it work.

Also, make sure to run IDEFixPrefs (or whatever it's called). It might be that the second channel is disabled by default. This will let you correct that.

Thank you all, but I have been having this problem...

To CLS2086:
I baught IDE-Express, and this has driver disk, IDE-Fix. I think this is
a licenced version. And I tried FindDrive tool, but only two drives are
displayed in scsi.device, and no drive in atapi.device...

To dnelsonfl:
Yes, CD-ROM is jumpered as master, and I tried no-jumper setting... But
same result...

I tried these settings :
  #1 : port 1 - IDE drive - IDE drive
       poer 2 - CD-ROM(master)
port 2 CD-ROM can not be detected.

  #2 : port 1 - IDE drive - CD-ROM(slave)
       poer 2 - IDE drive(master)
port 2 IDE drive can not be detected. And CD-ROM is detected!

  #3 : port 1 - IDE drive - IDE-drive
       poer 2 - CD-ROM(slave)
port 2 CD-ROM can not be detected.

  #4 : port 1 - IDE drive - IDE-drive
       poer 2 - CD-ROM(no jumper)
port 2 CD-ROM can not be detected.

Yes, it seems only port 2 is not working correctly...

To Matt_H:
I tried IDEFixPrefs in SYS:Prefs, and I set all port (0-3) as "autodetect".
But same result....

Odaman,

Have you tried a warm-boot after a cold-boot to see if the CD-ROM is detected on the warm boot? This was a trouble-shooting step I saw to help tell if the CD-ROM is just taking too long to spin up and make its presense known. There was also mention of needing to run loadide to get the second channel recognized. Maybe somebody with an a1200 and the 4-way ide adapter using both channels can post part of their startup sequence showing the correct way to load the drivers? Then you can compare it to yours and see if that helps move you in the right direction. It'd also help if they posted their idefixprefs too.

have you set in IDEFixPrefs

Connector Type= A600/A1200/A500 (or Auto)

4-Drive Adapter= EB Standard

and "Atapi enabled"?

About the LoadIDE thing, AFAIK its useful only if the scsi.device isn't correctly patched, anyway if you wanna try i have:

C:LoadIDE START QUIET

C:SetPatch SKIPROMUPDATES "scsi.device" QUIET

as very first line in S-S. (check to have LoadIDE in C:)

To all:
Does anyone know how to know IDE-Fix is registered version or not?

And I have to say, thank you for all who gave me a lot of informations, I'm very impressed.

To denelsonfl, and Framiga:
Yes, of course I tried both cold boot and warm boot, but same result.
I'm bit confused, my IDE-Fix is not licensed version!?

My IDE-Fix prefs setting is :
System Parameters
   Boot Graphics Mode : Default
   Disable Cache : disabled
   No FastMem : disabled

Controller Parameters
   Connector Type  : A600/A1200/A500
   4-Drive Adaptor : EB Standard
   ATAPI enabled   : Checked

Unit Parameters
Unit 0 : Default, IDE Unit, HD Mount
Unit 1 : Default, IDE Unit, HD Mount
Unit 2 : Default, ATAPI Unit, CD Mount

And my startup-sequence is :
  C:IDEFix
  C:SetPatch SKIPROMUPDATES "scsi.device" QUIET

I tried also :
  C:LoadIDE START QUIET
  C:SetPatch SKIPROMUPDATES "scsi.device" QUIET
but same result...

BTW, can you please explain me a difference of IDEFix and LoadIDE?

To lopos:
Thank you copy & paste the URL, and I checked this site!!
Mine is not Eyetech one's, but very similar with mine.

Hi Odaman,

If you are NOT plagued by annoying requesters asking you to register your copy of IDEfix, then you DO have a registered version.  If your version is unregistered, you will know it.
It sounds very frustrating - obviously the CD rom IS compatible (since it registered on the first IDE line).  Have you tried a different IDE cable on the second line, or swapping the IDE cables to make sure it is not acable fault.

btw - is the 'express module' included with your idefix express adapter - the one which connects to the clockport?

Are you connecting the correct 44-pin header to the motherboard?  AFAIK it should be the one closest to the edge of the board, but I haven't got a idefix-express so I'm not sure.

Good luck getting it working.
