Help! CDrom drive will not work with Cyberstorm
« on: February 04, 2006, 05:52:03 PM »
Hi,

I installed my Cyberstorm MK III into my A4000D yesterday. Now I have the OS3.1 installed on the SCSI drive thats attached to the Cyberstorm. My issue is that my CDrom drive is the IDE type not SCSI and I still want to use it but no mater what I do I cant seem to get it to work even after running the CDFS install it will not recognize that its even there. Am I doing something wrong? It worked just fine before I did the install of the cyberstorm. Can I not use both the A4000's onboard IDE and the Cyberstorms SCSI at the same time?

@tonyvdb

CS MK III bootmenu has an option to disable the built-in IDE of the system. Check that this option isn't enabled.

Thanks for the answer. How do I get into the boot menu?

Hold down the Esc key during boot.

Make sure your mount file (Devs:DOSdrivers/CD0) is pointing to the right place.
I imagine it should be something like:
device = scsi.device
unit = 0

CDrom drive should have it's jumper set to master if it's the only IDE device connected.

I just went into the boot menu and did not find a setting to enable or disable the onboard IDE. When I do the install of the Asim SDFS It wont even give me an option to access the apti device? I have the CDrom set to master and it is the only divice connected to the IDE cable. :-?

It's called SCSI patch in the System menu.

You should do a flash update, even if you already have the latest flash, just to reset all options to default. Also the flash update archive contains documentation of the bios menu.

You don't need no steenken install script...

Just make sure ASIMCFDS or whatever it's called is in L: and use your favourite text editor to check Devs:DOSdrivers/CD0

Should be something like:
FileSystem = L:ASIMCDFS /* The name of the game */
Device = "scsi.device" /* Name of exec device driver */
Unit = 0 /* exec device unit */

You'd better check what ASIMCDFS calls itself, I'm just guessing.

I see you're running OS3.1
Can't remember if you'll need to install IDEfix in your case?? (would use atapi.device)
Someone here will be able to clarify that.  Where's Patrick???

In any case, you're probably better to buy OS3.9 which gives you the many OS updates.  Including fixed scsi.device, large disk support, CacheCDFS for your CDROM, etc.
Of course to install OS3.9, you need your CDROM drive to work to begin with :-)
