A4000, CV64-3D and Buddha hardware problems
« on: February 03, 2006, 05:26:49 PM »
I’m very afraid that I have lost my A4k, CV64-3D and Buddha card.

My A4k configuration is: CS-MKII 060, Cybervision64-3D and the Buddha ide controller which controls my cd-rom drive, I’m using the internal A4k IDE to control a IDE disk.

Yesterday I was playing around with a 2.5” IDE drive on the Buddha, in order to make a complete copy of my boot drive because I wanted to use the much quieter 2.5” drive. I got it working, copied the content from the internal drive to the 2.5” drive, but all the sudden the 2.5” drive disappeared, and the A4k reported some problem in mounting the cd-rom drive (could not find it) and it would then freeze before the boot process was finished. No bid deal I thought and turned it off and left it alone in order to work on it the next day.

I discovered that I couldn’t see the Buddha controller in the boot menu, the two devices showing was the CS-MKII and the CV64-3D. I discovered that the A4k would freeze when I tried to load the monitor driver for the CV64-3D in devs:monitors, the computer would work fine as long I didn’t try to load the driver. The Buddha control was nowhere to be found, I tried to reinstall the driver for the card but no luck. I have also tried to reinstall the picasso96 driver, but no luck there to get it to work.
I have a spare A4k, where I tried to take the CV64-3D card and my boot drive, but with same result, it also freezes. The Buddha card doesn’t show up in the spare A4k either.
I tried to install a VLab card in the first A4k and it shows up in the early boot menu, then I tried to use a RetinaZ3 card which shows up in the spare A4k but it doesn’t in the first A4k. When I try to install the RetinaZ3 with picasso96 driver nothing happens, the Picasso96 doesn’t automatically detect the RetinaZ3 and even though I select the approved card type the driver in the devs:monitors will not run for the Retina3Z.

I’m a bit lost here, as you might have guessed. Have I killed my CV64-3D, Buddha and A4k?? any help is appreciated!

Regards Adrian

ps: sorry for the long post  ;-)

Ok, I'll try and help you.

1. Rip out every Zorro-card you have, does it boot? If not, try with other cpu-card(or if you have a cpu mounted on motherboard)
2. If it does, put back the Buddha. Does it boot? If not, try another Zorro-slot until it works, if it's still not working take it out and do the next step.
3. Install graphiccard(or better, a scandoubler just to see if the computer works). Does it boot?
4. If nothing works, go to another Amiga and try there.

If P96 doesn't "see" your card then it's probably not there, if you see any cards in the earlystartup then it should be in WB too.
Hope it helps a bit. :-)

EDIT: Did you use the 2.5" slot on the Buddha with your harddisk? If so then maybe it fried your Buddha, the 2.5" slot can't give too much power so it's better to use an adapter and connect it to the 3.5" slot.
The monitorsettings you can wipe a way and make new ones.
