Intel PPC in A600
« on: April 14, 2003, 12:28:51 PM »
Some time ago I posted a topic where I argued that I hade seen a x86 processor acting as a 68k processor inside a A600.

But I was wrong, I'm so SORRY

I got some figures wrong, here's how it is:

It's a Intel PPC processor that act as a 68k processor.
Probably something like coldfire project.

And he got NT 4.?? running on it through a x86 emulator, :-o :-o :-o :-o :-o

I promise you all that this is no joke.

Hopefully not an intel ppc, as intel have never made ppc processors.

Even if it were true, what would be the point?

PPC is not 68k.  Microsoft never made a 68k version of NT4.

Well, there are MIPS and PPC ports for Windows NT4. Did Intel ever produce MIPS-cpus?

On the NT 4 workstatiobn CD there is versions for PPC, alpha and x86 processors.

And he used the ppc version to get it running.

The intel processor must be some kind of hybrid like the ColdFire project, as I mention before.

Maybe I have to mention that this was not something that got the chance to be comercial.
It was probably only in some kind of experimental stage.

The purpose of this project was presumably that it would be complatible with 68k processors and that you woulden't need to manufacture new 68k processors to replays broken ones.

Probably for industrial purpos or something similare.

Look, if it's the x86 accelerator it isn't even news. I've heard of it before. It could also be ppc, there must be some prototypes for cards that never reached the market (amijoe, anyone?)

But it certainly smegging ISN'T an intel ppc card. I know NT4 works for ppc, I have an RS/6k workstation here that used to run it, but that kinda doesn't change the fact that intel and powerpc in the same sentence does NOT compute. Sorry.

Red dwarf overdose?  :-P

And yes, Intel have never bought a licence to make PPC compatible chips, they simply don't need too.

My guess is that Intel chip is probably just a SCSI controler or Flash Rom or something similar. What was the model number?
