USB Video Card

Forgive me if I'm repeating info, searched forum and didn't see this one.
Anyway someone mentioned writing a driver for a PCMCIA video device. What about a USB 2.0 external video device. Could a driver be written for one of these devices for a usb 2.0 equiped amiga? Seems there would be the bandwith lacking in the 16 bit cardbus idea. Just a thought.

Hi,

One problem that springs to mind is that the USB ports for "classic" Amigas (via clock-port or Zorro cards) are only USB 1.1...

Yes it is a full VGA Graphics display card made to connect to a PC Via USB 2.0 It was intended for multiple monitor option or a better display for PC laptops. It can mirror, extend or become the primary video display. They have been on the market for a few years I think. As for USB 2.0 on
Amiga it looks like this can be done with a mediator card and spider usb

I can't think of a reason why it would not be possible. It would, however, be a lot of work. Porting a driver would be half the job - RTG drivers would also have to be written to allow you to actually display anything. And if you already have a Mediator to get the USB ports, then you have access to PCI graphics cards anyway, which are not only neater as they are internal, but would perform bettern than USB video cards anyway.

a Mediator, Spider USB and a USB VGA card...
that's really expensive  
(and there are no Drivers for a USB VGA card
on Amiga, I guess)

Mediator and PCI VGA makes sense, no waste of Money.

The only way this would be truely useful would be if we could get USB 2.0 without a Mediator. AFAIK the only bus fast enough on an A1200 is the trapdoor expansion connector. If there was an accelerator with USB 2.0 built in, then it could be installed in a desktop A1200, and then a USB graphics card could be connected to it. This *would* be quite cool, as desktop A1200 owners could then have RTG graphics.

But then, you could just use a BlizzardVision, which would probably perform better.

It just looks like it. Performance is about USB 1.1 even with this "solution" (which in fact is just relabeled NEC USB card with modified PCI ID).

There is no real USB 2.0 (speedwise) for classics.

Yea I guess the USB via trap door would be the only compelling reason to do this. Still would be neat if someone wrote drivers for it anyway just for kicks.
At lest that would give people that already have USB amigas a toy to play around with.
