A500+ red power and caps light??resets itself over and over...

I bought a batterd A500+ with what seems to be a 1mb card for £2 but it has a red power light and caps lock light???Never seen that before.Also what things can i try and fix as it just keeps on reseting..It comes on a black screen and then white then resets and does it all over again.Oh and the power light keeps flashing also...

I'm not sure what white color during early boot means, but you could try to reseat or remove that 1mb expansion card.

Yea my A500 has got red caps lock & a power light, with a green floppy indicator, mine also has a commodore logo instead of the "Commodore Amiga A500" tag thing above the lights.
I would really like why it is designed like this - its intriging........are these model very early one's or something?

The reset problem may be due to the extra board being not seated correctly or even faulty, try removing it and see what happens then.

A500 or A500+ ?

Earlier A500s and A2000s have red Power and Caps Lock LEDs and Green Floppy (and HD for the A2000) LEDs.
The later ones have Green Power and Caps Lock LEDs and Amber Floppy (and HD for the A2000) LEDs.

It really sounds strange that your A500+ has the top combination, but maybe someone has put an old keyboard in there.

Anyways, my brother used to have a very early A500, this one had a 'C=' key instead of the Left 'Amiga' key. I've never seen one like this since.

My brother also had an old Rev 3 A500 with the C= key.  I have an old A2000 keyboard with the left C= key, but I think that was more common.

Yeah, try removing that memory expansion. I had something similar with a Amiga i rescued from the junkyard. It turned out to be a leaky battery which had destroyed the memory expansion and had also caused some corrosion in the a500 itself. It worked fine after cleaning out the amiga and removing the expansion. The expansion was sadly too badly damaged for me to repair, as i have basicly no skills in that area.

If it is infact a a500+, then it also has a battery on the mobo wich also might have leaked, in that case remove it completly and try to clean of as much as possible. Also make sure every chip is seated properly.

If it is a a500+, then it could be that the previous owner swapped the keyboard or something.

Yes it is defo an A500+ but thats not my problem at the moment as it aint working lol.Right well i have removed the battery and had indeed started to leak juice out.It never seemed to bad from what i could see but i did re seat all the big chips.But i did notice on some of the small chips that look like mini roms there was some green colored corrosion on the pins which might be battery acid???
So what is a good way to clean it as from the looks of things it could be due to the battery but i aint no expert.The light flashes 11 times then resets..

Hi GAV.

I haven't used an A500 in YEARS, but this problem came up when the 68000 chip became unseated often due to heat expansion. Did you press firmly down on it?

Oh, and be sure to scrape all that batter off. Deep fried computers tend to malfunction ya know. :-P

Oh, and yes, that green crud is corrosion. Get a light, magnifying glass, rubbing alcohol, q-tips, and and x-acto knife or if you prefer, that tool dentists use to scrape plaque off your teeth.

Rub the alcohol liberally, let it set for a bit, then scrape very carefully, using the q-tip to clean up the corrosion. Be careful that if you're using a sharp tool, only scrape the metal legs. And of course, unplug the computer.
