Let's all get together!
« on: January 19, 2006, 06:20:44 AM »
North, East, South and West! We should all have an Amiga.org get together. Wadda ya'll think? We could have it in Denver where we could all drive or fly equal distances. We could have it this summer and get it all coodinated before hand. It could be an annual event! We could all meet each other and talk miggy! What does everyone think about that?

Well saying that a majority of the members live in far off places like Croatia, or the UK, it would probably be kinda rough getting together.

I know myself, I can't attend any type of conference, event at all until I can get a job to make money, so I can afford to go places.  Wouldn't that be the way things work out??? I have all the time in the world, but I don't have any type of money to afford gas to go places. When I do get the money, I'm going to have to work all the time to keep my job  :roll:

I wonder if any countries aside from the US and UK actually have enough active A.Org members to make a get-together worthwhile?

I'd go to anything Amiga-related if it was in NZ, but there don't seem to be many active Amigans here!

Actually there seem to be several Amiga users in NZ, but there are not too many anywhere except the groups in the UK and Germany.  The rest of the countries seem to have a handful only of Amiga users left.  I have tried to find user local to Southern California (where there used to be many, specially Toaster/Flyer/Lightwave users), but could only find 3 or 4 within a 100 mile radius.

I would enjoy meeting many users from here if any event were to be planned, but won't hold my breath.  As an alternate, you are all invited to visit me and my collection at any time.  Just give me at least a week or two advance notice.  I can probably provide a place to stay as well for a day or two, depending on how many want to visit at the same time.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

Is there a Frappr for this community?

That way you could get an instant idea of the numbers near you (if any :( )

@Dingo_aus

I think xeron set up something like that, but I think it's on AmigaWorld. I'd attend an Aussie one if I weren't living in the UK like half of Australia, although I'm not in London so there's a small difference ;-)

For the A.org community, not that I know about, we do have a map for people who chat on a.org IRC though.

gizmo,
I say go for it!
Just start spilling out some more details about what you have in mind. Don't be deterred by the "nay" sayers alone. If this can't be a global A.org event then perhaps a regional gathering is still possible.

Regards,

@amigadave

Wow, that has got to suck.  You would think that there would be people that would still be into hobby video editing in the good old Silicon Valley land, that use Amigas.

I guess most of them moved on to Windows NT or Macintosh when the Amiga market got 86'ed.  I know in Northern Indiana I've met at least 10 people in my city that have been around Amigas and knew quite a bit about them.  As I've said in my posts, many times you can find Amiga stuff in the thrift stores around here, and I've learned now that our own Library is crawling with Amigas, no just that one coveted Amiga 4000T running InfoChannel.

A gathering is a nice idea.  I have to say this community is a friendly bunch.  I've also never been able to make it to any cons or shows...but I'm in Australia too.  :boohoo:

Oh well, hope some of you in the states can manage a gathering of your clan.

Edit- @amigadave: very generous of you.  Thanks very much for the open invitation.
Good good study, day day up!

*sigh..
I would LOVE to be at a gathering...i think is one of my dreams..
I have never ever in my life been in a Amiga-party or something like that...
Of course...nearest Amiga user lives in Chile (Hi Rod!!)...and i guess im the only Argentinian A.Org member (besides this other guy who now lives in Germany , hppacito or something like that was his nick...)

I would really love to attend one of those meetings for sure...but unfortunately its almost impossible...
I know some brazilians (at least i know 50 Amiga users there), but i have never attended one of their meetings (which are very cool, from what i have read & seen...)
