Faulty Floppy Disk Drive?
« on: January 15, 2006, 12:00:35 AM »
Hi, i recently took my amiga aparrt to clean away dust and to see how hard a hard drive installation would be, after I put it back together i never tested it...

I got it out today to test it and it boots up fine and shows the insert disk screen, when i put a disk in it starts to load it (screen changes to just purple) and then stops and goes back to insert disk screen!

Is this due to a faulty disk drive? if so then its an easy repair...

or something more serious?

thanks for any help!  :-?

at first buy a floppy disk cleaner insert it in the floppy to clean the head and try to see what happens. a lot of times i solve this kind of problems this way specialy with the floppy of the 3000. there is a utility to run too while the cleaner is in the floppy,it's called ''headcleaner'',do a search at aminet to find it, this or something similar

ok, thanks, ill try that first then, when i blew into it a lot of dust came out of it! (its stored under my bed atm)

Ill try that program... Can i use the program instead of buying a cleaner or is it supposed to be used with a headcleaner?

anyway ill try and buy one.

the cleaner is an empty disk with some kind of coat in it to clean the head. there is and a little bottle with cleaner liquid and you put some drops in, then you insert that damn thing in the drive. because there is no data on it the amiga can't read it and so can't make it turn arround a lot of times,so this is the job of the program. it gives the disk some turns to do the job.
but you can do without the prog. just insert the cleaner more than just one time, try 3-5 times, probebly will be enough
