Two CD32 systems on ebay with faults.
« on: January 05, 2006, 02:59:29 AM »
For those paying attention, I am selling off some items on ebay to make room for machines I want to use, but cannot because of available space.

This action is for 2 CD32s with 2 controllers, a power supply and an RF lead to connect a CD32 to the TV. Both CD32s need some attention.

Taken from the blurb on my listing, the faults are as follows:
The first one has only one fault: The reset button does not work! So that is perfectly OK to use, if you don't mind powering down the system to reboot it. It is not the button itself as I have tried another CD32 top section on this one, and the same fault occurred. I think it is just a dry joint on the board, maybe down to some damp conditions it must have been in because although the board looks good, the metal shielding has slightly oxidised. So a little TLC will bring this one back to 100% working condition.

The second has two faults, one the lid does not stay up on the CD ROM door, the hinge is still there and there is a little bit of friction if you move it with your finger, so the spring mechanism appears to still be there, it just looks like the screw that attaches the hinge to the lid has fallen off, a screw in the right place should fix that. Note the main hinge running the length of the lid is fine, only the one on the side to prop the drive door open has a fault.

The second fault is on composite or RF output, the display has lost all contrast, it looks like something has turned the brightness right up to the point of the image only just viewable. The image is crisp and the sound is perfect, but this brightness issue needs attention.

So you see both machine's have different problems. If I was not going to try and fix both, I would fix the brightness on the second unit, which has a working reset button, and then I would stick the top half of the 1st CD32 on the 2nd, fixing the door. A nice project for an Amiga enthusiast, but you just might want them both for spares, the choice is yours.
