I just won this auction....
« on: January 03, 2006, 10:27:47 PM »
.... but can't pay because Paypal tells me:

"This seller cannot currently receive payments."

His AUCTION clearly states that he accepts Paypal.

Is this some type of scam?   :-?

Could be his account is lock for some reason? Have you tried contacting the seller? The seller could be in a dispute with another buyer or is being penalized for not following the AUP and ToS. Take it as a sign of caution, but contact the seller to see what the responce is. You could always try asking Paypal customer service too.

Yes, first wait for contact or try and contact him. The account may have been locked, changed or suspended for many different reasons. Either way, opening a new one is quick and painless anyway. I'd try to get in touch first, the guy has 100% positives so it may be some temprary thing.

should be ok - I wouldn't worry about never ever doing business with him before. Think about it, if everyone did that nothing would get sold.

Geez man, give the guy a chance to resolve the problem before you vent your frustration on a messageboard. He's got at least 120 transactions without a single negative feedback, and he's been a member since '99.

Well, I wasn't going for the jugular or anything. I was more or less looking for a respone from someone who may have seen that type of activity before. Yes, I did look at his feedback before I even bid, which is why I was suprised by there not being an active Paypal account. Put yourself in my shoes for a moment; I evaluated all the possible social engineering possibilities of this auction and, after thinking about it for awhile thought, "what the hell", looks reputable. It just suprised me. Besides, what does how many auctions he has going at once, have to do with weather or not I can "complete the transaction". Good advice about establishing contact with the seller before paying though. However, I did do the right thing and notified the seller in a polite way that I was not able to pay using Paypal.

So f*cking what? means nothing. If you know about the scams on ebay then you would clearly know what you wrote is a load of bollox.

The only safe way is to pay using a form of payment what you will get back if the {bleep} hits the fan. Never pay using unsafe methods.

@gizmo350

Best thing to do is back out unless you get contacted by the ebayer but DO NOT buy from he/she outside of ebay/paypal.

Would be weird considering that he has good feedback. Probably some problem of some kind? I would contact this person on mail asking about the problem.

Speaking of Ebay rants, I'd like to take this opportunity to say very nasty things about whoever just beat me out of an auction using a sniper program. But I won't. I have many vile thoughts in my head and heart I would like to express about this person. But I won't. I will say I am disappointed that someone in this community would do something like that do another member. And I am taking every step I can think of to prevent this type of thing.

Well the guy is a reputable guy so I would not worry about it, BUT you should always touch base with the seller just in case.  I have lost $$ on like 3-4 items from paying first then hoping for the best, and the items never arrived and the seller vanished, so now I make it a point to get a reply from a "live" person and not the ebay invoice system!

ok...

/rant on

And as far as being upset someone sniped you, get over it.  I snipe EVERY SINGLE F-ING TIME, as I save lots of money that way for my expensive hobby!!!  I found that EVERY TIME I did not snipe I had to pay out the ass for the item, and I am not rich (We are talking about AMIGA items here!)  You need to raise your amount if you don't want to lose the item, that will take care of it.  Sniping happens all the time and it helps ensure there will be no bidding war!  Plus using a auction program is great as it saves time!  I don't have a lot of time to sit infront of the computer placing low bids like some people.  I set my max to a reasonable level and let it do its thing.  I do NOT bid low and whine later! (See my post about always bidding low!)

/rant off

No offense to anyone but this irritates ME, when people whine about snipping!  :)

Good News Everyone! (I love Futurama) I was able to pay thru Paypal. I'm always leary of ebay glitches though - like the Daja Vu incident with the cat in the Matrix.    I'll keep you all posted though. After all, you don't see an auction like that too often. Especially an Amiga auction.  :-P  He emailed me back and told me "Hmmmm, that's weird". And asked me to let him know if I continued to have a problem. But, I've been ripped off on ebay by peeps with 5 years or more with sterling reputations. In the mean time, keep the electrons flowing thru those Amigas!  ;-)

@ Dr_Righteous....

Don't feel bad. I was bidding on THIS today (I was the first bidder 7 days ago) and lost to a sniper! There were like six of the same item from the same seller. Nobody bid for 6 days. Then, within six hours of the auction ending, WHAM! Peeps came out of the woodwork and drove the prices sky high! I lost! The final price was outrageous anyway! Win some, lose some.
