Can connect an external (PC parallel port) cd drive to A1200?
« on: December 30, 2005, 04:18:45 PM »
Greetings from 2005 (or should that be goodbye?),

I picked up a used pc parallel port connected Cd drive recently complete with pc drivers which appear to work fine with pc (slow I think its a 4 speed drive).
is it possible to :

a) connect to parallel port of A1200 i.e. is CMD using a "standard" parallel port I/F?

b) are there any Amiga drivers to enable a cd drive via the parallel port?

c)any details on modifying parallel cable to pcmcia and obtaining suitable drivers for this config?

many thanks,
Ian.

Doesn't sound plausible, but if it can be done, I'd like to hear it.
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.

It's probably possible, but would have the same caveats as using a parallel port Zip drive on the Amiga, e.g.:

1. It would probably require a small dongle to bring in some extra I/O lines from one of the joystick ports
2. It needs a specifically written driver
3. It'd be dog slow
