AmigaToday.com is online!
« on: December 28, 2005, 02:05:33 AM »
Welp, better late than never, I was shooting for a Christmas opening, but alas that never happend... 2 days too late... d'oh! However, I bring good news! AmigaToday.com is now officially open to the public!

So far this is a one man operation, all done by me. Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year! :-D

Comments, and suggestions needed! :idea:

P.S. If anyone would like to contribute a logo for the website, please do so by posting the images in this thread. My current logo i'm not too fond us, and i'm graphically illiterate.

Thank you all in advance!  :-)

Sorry, but why would you write an Amiga page that requires CSS?

Currently it looks terrible in IBrowse.

Ciao, Trev.

Others have told me it looks fine in Ibrowse and Aweb.

Hi there. I had a terrific idea for a logo. Let me install my Imagine3D v4 and get it rendered. It should take a few days. Is an animated logo fine? I'd like to try one, because it would incorporate all the different mascots, rainbow check, boing ball, butterfly, etc. in the style of an old newsreal splash screen.
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.

It really does look quite horrible with CSSless browsers.

Why can't you test it yourself with the Amiga browsers? (Seeing your signature)

@Amiduffer

Thanks. Post it when it's finished. Yes, animated logo would be great.

I can't at this time, as what I have in my signature has yet to happen... my stuff shipped from Elbox, and AmigaKit.com over a week ago, and it's still not here yet!  :pissed:

@Invisix

See the page thru the Dejavu.org Browser Emulator: Netscape Navigator (emulator).

This is pretty much how it appears with IBrowse at the moment, except that the Calendar is formatted correctly with IB (mono coloured though). Search doesn't look as nice in IB, though.

well I ran IB through WinUAE, it's not as pretty as with a CSS capable browser, however it's readable.

I use a news / weblog, webware for the website, and it's all CSS based, just like most other webwares of the same genre. Not my fault IB isn't CSS compatible. :P

Well, you've lost one potential reader then. I am not going to bother using the PC for the Amiga website browsing.

All major amiga sites look brilliant with Amiga browsers (amiga.org for example).

I'll see what I can do, however i'm not sure what.

As I said earlier, I may write a jaavscript, that will autodetect an Amiga browser, and route it to a different location, specifically for Amiga non-CSS browsers... aka a pure HTML website.

That means double the work... dual-postings. Hmmm... maybe i'll figure something out. :-)

Write out everything in XML, and then have two seperate XSLT stylesheets -- one for Amiga (no CSS) and one for everything else. Transform your XML using them to XHTML / HTML, send to client where it is displayed in browser.

Fixed with a pure HTML template, NO CSS!  :-o

It doesn't look anywhere as good as the CSS template did, however, this was a hour and half - two hour rush job, and i'll be fixing it tomorrow. :-)

Comments & Opinions please!

HI,

Now that is much better. It now is much easier to read on an Amiga browser.

Great job.

Well, the transition from pure CSS to HTML went "okay". The pure HTML site looks nowhere's near as pretty as the CSS site did, however compatability had to be sustained.

I have redone another template, this time for simplistic somewhat than the last HTML template was, and I like this one more than that one.

This HTML template looks nearly identical in Ibrowse as it does on PC & Mac web browsers. It's been said it looks okay in Aweb as well.
