CD32 Pad problem
« on: December 27, 2005, 02:48:11 PM »
When I play payback I cant get my controller to work properly, by this when I push the red button to go forward the little guy just punches and none of the other button do what there meant to, I had a look at the controller setup and all the button are correctly assigned red=forward.green=punch, blue=backward and so on. This is only a problem ingame as all the menu button work like there meant to, I have noticed that if I play the freespace demo and then quit that and load payback the controls work fine ingame so does anyone have any idea o whats causing this  problem

Payback started doing weird things for me as well (like those control pad issues) starting a year or two ago. I have no idea why. Also when I try to quit, the system will lock completely and rebooting will leave me with an invalidated partition.

So it doesn't appear to be a unique problem you have.

CD32 pads are read serially. You have to specifically reprogram some of the gameport lines to allow serially clocking the data (off the top of my head, the primary button line is turned into an output used for the serial clock, while one of the pot lines is used to read the serial data in fast mode). It sounds like the game isn't reprogramming the gameport lines correctly. Running another game first sets the register that payback doesn't. At least, that's what it sounds like to me.

Well i done a complete format (yet again) and just installed 3.9,warpup 4.0,mediator setup and setup screenmodes and installed payback and tryed the game and its still doing the same problem. Could this be an issue with the motherboard rather than a software failure?

No read JLF's comment again - it's to do with the way Payback reads data from the gameport. There is an update to Payback on Aminet, have you installed it?

Yea sorry, I've used the update and tryed the setjoypatch. The game worked fine the other day but since im having some sort of problem with warpup5, I did a fresh install and thats where the problem has started.

I take it then that you are using a PPC version of the Payback executable? If so, try the 68k version and see if you have the same problem.

That suggests to me that it's not a Warpup problem, but a problem with the game.

I've tryed almost everything to try and get this sorted , een tryed running the game before installing the update but still no enjoy. I thinks its time I took this up with aspex and see if they can solve the problem and release some sort of patch for the game, so thanks for trying to help me with this problem guys :-D
