Where am I going wrong (setup 3.9)
« on: December 23, 2005, 12:46:27 PM »
All these little problems Im having seem to be linked, so instead of keeping tons of little posts going. I'll go throught what I'm doing from start to finish and someone might be able to spot where I'm going wrong.

Setup:
Amiga 1200,20gig hdd, mediator lx,voodoo3,Bppc 160mhz/060, idefix 97, liteon cdr, philps dvd rom drive, removable hdd tray, 300watt psu

HD (SCSI): 3 partitions
Workbench: 2.1 gig formated sfs 1.236 (mask 0x7ffffffe, max transfer 0x0001fe00, file system block size 512)
Work:7gig (same as above)
Games:10gig (same as above)

So all partitions have been formatted with sfs and are empty, so I install OS3.1 (first error "Not enough space on WB to install fonts, you can install later by....."So i carry on and after 3.1 is installed I reboot then install Powerup system disk and install IDEFIX, then I install MW2.1. Then after that I install OS3.9 then I follow kgrach guide

Code: [Select]

3. installed CDROM software from 3.9 install script

4. installed PowerPC software support Warp OS V5 from 3.9
install script selected Wshell Support&other GFX card from
Question.

5. Installed BPPCFix from WarpUP archive. In the Startup-sequence
before setpatch wrote C:BPPCFix Install >NIL:
Fixes nasty terminate message on starting desktop and is needed
to prevent BB2 problems

6. Installed Boing Bag One & Two

7. Installed MUI 3.8 choose to install image sets & Example programs

8. Installed off of MM CD Mediator 2.9 system files,Enhanced
Voodoo drivers,Warp 3d using supplied install script

9. Installed picasso96-2_1b using install script.
Choose Cybervison 64 3D as the graphic card.
Found the CVision3D and CVision3D.info in the DEVS:Monitors
drawer, renamed these files to Voodoo and Voodoo.info,
respectively.
Changed in the tool type window of the Voodoo.icon:
BOARDTYPE = from CVision3D to Voodoo.
Double Clicked on the Voodoo icon (in Devs:Monitors drawer).
Started the Picasso96Mode program (in SYS:Prefs drawer) and
selected
Attach setting to Board0: Voodoo.
Set up some screen modes 320X200,640X400,800X600,1024X768
Saved exited and rebooted Machine.

10.Installed mediator updates so all files match that of
Mediator system files list on web Site confirmed to have
all files and all up to date.

List of Envarc settings:

Tested W3DDEMOs ALL Worked

Then I check the gear demos and nothing works so I remove the A3000/A4000 warp drivers and then the PPC gears work and the 68k side just goes to a grey window and all my icons go blank on wb, so I changed the MMU to Yes and then the 68K gears work but the PPC side results in a warpos pc exception message!  So I found an old back version of my last setup so I copy the libs folder from the CD to my WB and then both 68k and ppc gears work but this leaves me with another problem and thats when I try to delete a folder I have created I get an error "AsyncWB error "Error while deleting "folder Name" object in use." there are no assigns to these folders and i can just create a folder than try to delete it straight away but result in getting that error message but before i replaced my original LIBS with my backed up version, I could delete folders without this error another problem I have started to get is whdload, when i load a game it switches to the pal screen mode but just sits on a black screen so im unable to play the game and have to use the assigned cancel button to return to WB.

So any ideas whats happening might just save an amiga from leaving my room via the window with my boot attached to its floppy :-) I cant think of any more information that you's might need but if you can think of any just ask in 2 minz cause im away to bang my head off the wall to stop me looking like this

Well, you missed out 1. and 2.
And what the hell are MW2.1 and kgrach ?

The usual way to install 3.9 is

1. boot from the emergency disk
2. partition and format the hdd
3. install 3.9
3a. copy pci.library from the emergency disk
4. install PowerPC and Internet programs
5. install Boingbags
6. install Warp3D

If you don't already have an emergency disk, the steps to create one are:

1. install 3.1
2. install idefix
3. install Mediator system files
4. install Picasso96
5. create emergency disk
6. copy pci.library to the emergency disk

Bye,
Thomas

MW2.1= Magic Workbench

kgrach= I dont know if he's a member here but its his guide on geocites mediator site.  But im sure he's a member here?

small update:
Well I just did a fresh (19th time) install but this time I used the default file system on WB instead off SFS and I left out boingbag2. didnt config anything and both lots of gears work fine.  So i configured all the en varc settings done power pc and p96 and rebooted tested gears and they both worked, so then I setup the config for the mediator settings then rebooted once again and tested both gears but only the 68k workedwhen i clicked on the ppc side i got warpos power exception, so does this narrow it down abit for anyone

Sorry but I don't know anything about PPC so I can't help you. I thought your problem was with actually getting the OS installed, rather than a problem with your software.

At a guess though, if the 68k binary works but the PPC one doesn't, then you should check your version of ppc.library and 680x0.library. Also, do any other PPC binaries work, or is it just this one?

Yes, got the same here. Make sure that you've installed the PPC version of Warp3D. PPC programs obviously don't work with the 68k version of Warp3D.

Oh, and delete ppc.library from Libs. It does not work with WarpOS.

Bye,
Thomas

Which screen? The VGA monitor on your Mediator, or the display connected to the Amiga's RGB/composite/RF output?

The only stupid question is a question not asked.

Win•dows: n. A thirty-two bit extension and graphical shell to a sixteen-bit patch to an eight-bit operating system originally coded for a four-bit microprocessor which was written by a two-bit company that can\'t stand one bit of competition.
