What cool multi player games are avail for AMIGA
« on: December 21, 2005, 01:20:04 AM »
Appart from Quake/s, are there any cool mutiplayer tcp/ip games out there for AMIGA?

I remember I used to link up me and my mates 500 via null modem cable to play Fa18 interceptor I think it was, or was it populos. That's not an option now, but I have broadband, just wondering if anything was made or on the agenda so I could romp around with friends and do stuff :)

I play everquest quite a lot on PC and civilization, Mech warrior :)
It's not the question, that is the problem, it is the problem, that is the question.

I personally think that firepower was a great multiplayer game for the classic amigas. This game is not tcp/ip, but you could link using a serial cable or a modem.

Another of my favotire multiplayer games was The Perfect General on the Amiga (I recall it worked via modem, nullmodem, but not tcp/ip).

As a single player game it's good enough to amuse you for a couple weeks, as a multiplayer game it's still a great game 15 years later. :)

On an aside note, if you were a fan of TPG there is now a windows based version for Internet play (Bethesda released the source to a fellow). All of the classic sets are available online for $25, includes quite a bit of fan created and supported maps and scenarios (I even did a few under the name of Jagabot). There is also a yahoo group for The Perfect General where people arrange matches and share maps etc. You can also download a demo to try the game before buying it (demo includes a couple maps and it does work online for multiplayer). The same guy makes a new Empire Deluxe which is every bit as good as the original (except it's multiplayer online). Sadly, they're all PC only with the start of Mac support but no Amiga versions forthcoming.

Some old Amiga ECS games can be run across the internet (or lan) using Kaillera.

I've played Speedball 2 on the net in WinUAE

I downloaded a package from somewhere that had everything set up, tcp setings, adfs, WinUAE config etc.

Search the forums at www.amigagames.com for more info about adfs/winUAE/kaillera and getting them all to work.

Wow! I used to waste a lot of hours playing that on my brothers A500. It would suck when your tank would get jammed in tight corners. :-D When you run over people, it left a little smear.

I don't remember the name, but it was a weird car racing game where you would race on a raised platform and my brother and I would hook our Ami's up by null modem and race the hours away!
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.

No mention of Super Skidmarks?  Fair enough, I don't think you can play it over TCP/IP but d'mn it was good multiplayer fun...6 players at once I recall.

Me and my brother-in-law used to play Formula 1 Gran Prix on my old A500.  I think it did have the ability to race over modem or serial connection, but didn't have anyone close by to paly that way.  The game did have multiplayer mode on a single machine, but in this multiplayer mode, one player would race a few laps, then the computer would take over player 1's car, and player 2 could race.  It wasn't the same as racing realtime at the same time, but it was good enough to entertain us for hours.
