Anyone have a old dead or working Amiga 3000 drive to sell?
« on: December 20, 2005, 03:03:10 AM »
I need a old non working A3000 drive (Chinon FB-354 or FB-357).  My A3000T HD 1.76 drive's disk insert/write protect sensors died and I tried to fix and ended up breaking the sensor from repeated inserting/removing to test it.  So now I figure to try and fix this otherwise fine HD drive!  Anyone?

TJ,

I have the PC 1.44 HD equivalent that your welcome to. I think it's an FZ-357. It's NOT an Amiga drive, but the "PC" look alike version. PM me if it will work for parts. Although I haven't tested it, you may have it for postage.

Thanks but I think that drive is not the same as the FB 357.  I think it has to be the same for it to work.

I have a couple working 3000T floppy drive here: I think they're the same as the 3000 no? (anyone?)

I can also check my drive box and see if I have any other 3000 drives. I know I had a lot of wonky FB357 and FB354 drives here at one point (you said you wanted a non-working one?)

(I'm pretty sure the only difference between 3000 drives and other drives is the button to match the case bezel btw.)

Regards,

Glen

Hi,
I have two FZ-354 that are working but doesn't look great:
as many other 3000 the buttons have been broken then glued.

If you want them no problem: i've sold my 3000 into pieces as the power supply was dead they are the last parts

I'm living in france

The drive I need is a FB 357 or FB 354 and yes the 3000 and 3000T are the exact same drive type.

I have a 3000D with two dying floppies. They whine and howl when there is a disk in them and neither is able to complete a format. :(

I do have a workinf FB-357 from an A4000 case I have but it has a white button versus beige. Is it easy to swap the eject button?

You can oil those to get rid of the noise, it will probably also solve your format problem. The bearing just needs some lubrication. Of course, you want to lubricate them very (very) sparingly to avoid splatter on your disks!  :-o

I've tried dry grease in the past but it seems to scatter all over the bloody drive and screw it all up along with disks so don't use that lol. (3in1 oil works though)

I tried to disassemble them, but there is one screw on the top that sticks. What kind of oil should I use and exactly where should I oil them? I will try that this evening.
