@CatHerder,

Hey times are tough it is your perogative if you want to list items on ebay.  I am just making a statement that whenever I ask for something it is always turned down and listed on ebay.  What would you think if that happened to you all the time?  I think the only deal I got was someone who sold me a A500 for shipping only!  (Very nice of them I am greatful)  But then again A500s are cheap.  So I take back what I said that every time that has happened.

Anyway I am still interested in a few of your items and wish to bid!  I hope you don't blackball me like Vesalia!

btw both your A3000T MBs are going to sell for way more than $100 so no worries!  :)

Why would I blackball you? Times aren't tough, I'm just as happy to throw all this crap out but I thought I'd give everyone a chance to grab some of it before I did so. I think my perfectly clear intentions stated in my auctions will all by itself keep the prices low...

By saying "no refunds, no guarantee it works" etc on items I know work means I'll more than likely get 1/2 to 1/10th what I normally would...

eBay is always the easiest way to get rid of stuff and get a decent dollar amount in return. Dealing with individuals here is fine. Nothing wrong with that, but I agree that sometimes it can be a pain as a lot of people like to whine and consider anyone that doesn't "give away" Amiga hardware in order to "help fellow community members" evil. :-)

Still looking... Anyway, I'm not looking for a freebie here just something that I can get in Canada (to avoid expensive shipping and taxes) and I'm prepared to pay good money for one that's in a good shape and working.

Yeah, the key to importing parts from the USA is to use USPS ONLY, UPS and FedEx have extortion fees, err I mean brokerage fees...

I will certainly keep you posted on this 4000 once I set it up with a HD etc to let you know what the skinny is.

I'm really really trying to find a 2MB SIM locally that shows up as 2MB chip, all my simms (even 4MB ones) show up as 1MB chip. I've ran into this before, it's just the sims I have are all great 4MB 60ns FAST RAM but in bank 1 they show up as 1MB regardless of jumper settings.

This is so true. Once I ordered a part and they only shipped via UPS, I think it was a DVD burner or something. It cost me $60, but I had to pay a $40 brokerage fee and $5 or so in taxes. That's criminal almost. I learned my lesson...

Try a double sided SIMM, they usually work! (I've succesfully used 8MB SIMM's as 2MB Chip Ram)

Yeah that's what I had to do before. Except trying to find old double sided SIMMs in a city of 40,000 people is like trying to find a virgin in Las Vegas... I was pretty sure I had some, but they're probably in some super safe storage location that I'll have to stumble across as I am throwing stuff out. :-)

Amiga 4000's are awesome!!! Thats why I have two of them, and I'm on my way to getting a case for my spare motherboard for my third one.  Kinda wish I had a Amiga 4000T, but I guess I really can't be greedy, eh?

Maybe a Amiga 1200 would be good.

Besides there is nothing wrong with needing to get that extra bit of cash.  It's nice to help people by giving them hardware at discounted prices at times, but if you are selling on eBay for shark prices, that means you need the money.  Yeah stuff is expensive and landlords don't care if you are a nice person.  They just want there money for the rent.  So if there are people willing to get in bidding wars to pay $600 for you A4000 or what not, that will pay the bills.

people act as though people ebaying stuff are just evil. unless the seller put an enormous buy it now or reserve price on their stuff the prices are determined by the buyers. in other words stuff is selling for what people actually think it is worth.
a really good a4000 setup in excellent condition could be easily worth 500usd, it isnt worth that to me so i wouldnt pay that for it. i would consider 500usd for a mint a3000 with good accelerator, large hd and good video card.
ive sold stuff on ebay, and here on amiga.org and i can tell you that people on ebay pay what the device is actually worth. people on amiga.org want a deal, which isnt necissarily a bad thing, ive gotten several deals here. but dont rip someone just because they use ebay.

and then there is doomy...
Oh yeah?!?
Well your stupid bit is set,
and its read only!

I know what you mean about that 'attitude' some Amiga users seem to have. I got a load of abuse hurled at me when I tried to sell something on Amibench, and didn't reply for two days to an offer because I was away visiting friends in another part of the country.

I was selling a complete A4000 system on ebay

Quote
Hi
I emailed an offer of up to £300 a couple of days ago but have not yet had the courtesy of a reply. Did my email not get through?

I replied that I had just come back from a few days away and simply had not had time to reply to all emails sent to me. [As if I have some duty to sit in front of my computer all day like some pasty faced geek!]. Anyone who has ever sold anything 'high demand' on Amibench will know the amount of interest it can generate, I think I had somewhere between 15-20 emails with offers for the complete system or for individual components (even though I said I wouldn't split!). Anyway, I replied saying sorry and that I'd been away and hadn't had time to reply to all the emails.

Quote
Yes, very good but it doesnt say if the stuff has sold or whether you were
accepting my offer or hanging on for more or what??

There was little point in the response you just sent.

Now the tone of both of these emails had already started to get my back up. Its as if computer geeks DO conform to their stereotype. I bet the guy is some spotty virgin with bad breath and no social skills who uses the internet as a means of overcoming this, but STILL manages to come across as a {bleep}...

So I say that I have decided to keep the stuff (as it happens, I just don't want to deal with this tosspot), and at this point he starts hurling abuse at me and says how he's going to block my email address...

At the point, I decided never to use Amibench again, even though I'd dealt with some great people on there in the past. I've had enough of geeks who chase Amiga hardware with the same zeal that normal men chase women. I encountered this attitude a few times where people thought it was their god-given right to have my computer equipment essentiall given to them.

What I say, is sell on ebay, and screw the tossers that have ruined this 'community'
I like Amigas

I know what you mean.  But these are the type of people that ruin the work "geek" for those that truly honor it.  As you know a nerd just knows a lot of stuff, but a geek can actually get things do with that knowledge.  The "geeks" you are describing attack people with angst of a Star Wars acolyte at a cancelled show.

Yeah I have met some of these people when I did sell some stuff on eBay (yes many of you have sold/bought stuff on eBay, so quit acting like it's trading pornography to deal there.)  It would be like 2am in the morning, and they would leave me messages for stuff they bid on, and then they would retract their bids because I didn't answer within 4 hours of their bids  :-?

Many people just don't realize that some people actually work some bizzare hours, and can't get to the computer as often as they can.

As for the Amiga hardware/software prices.  True some people go out of their way to "screw" the Amiga users, such as some  dealers will try to sell stuff that is definately a bloated amount (even with all the production, warehousing, other expenses), in hopes to capture on the emotions of Amiga users.

Yet there are some people that sell on eBay because they know that there is someone willing to pay that money for what they need. I mean yeah supply and demand.  It's not like many people are opening up a shop just to screw people over, just that a lot of people need money, and sometimes fast.  It's cool to get a deal and stuff.  I myself am happy when I can catch a steal at times.  But it's just plain wrong to constantly expect a hand-out all the time.  Just my opinion.
