SDL doesn't try to "improve" the sound though, I think the sound is better but certainly it's quite lacking regarding Protracker/Noisetracker module compatibility.
So you have the strings in your palm. Do you know what they are for?

MikMod, modplug, DeliPlayer etc just play many of the modules wrong, and often without proper filter emulation.

uade is different, it uses the original player routines with m68k emulation, so the sound is 1:1 to the real thing. Also, the latest uade includes very precise filter emulation to give you the "damped" sound of the original A500 (if you want)...

I've found "modplug tracker", with all effects turned off, no cross channel mixing and resampling set to "no resampling", to sound pretty close to the original. (Never done a cross compare, though)
