A4K Latest Revision Mobbo trouble!
« on: April 06, 2003, 12:01:28 AM »
Hi!

I Have been given an A4k desktop revision D (I think, I don´t have it here).
It has the chip memory in board (no module), and the battery is an botton one (like the pcs).

It doesn´t boot nor do nothing. I don´t know what it can be.

To Start.. Where I can get info about this mobbo?

I will repost with more info about the board!

Thank you in advance

Hi!

The revision is A4000CR revision D but it doesn´t come with the CPU on the board (Like it appears to be).

I´m using an 3640 from Commodore. I doesn´t know the revision, but it´s BRAND NEW.

AFAIK that's normal. The CPU always did come on a 3640 card, though I may be wrong.

Some things to try:

Make sure the A3640 is seated correctly. Check the CPU clock jumpers. IIRC, (and I could be wrong), for the 3640 they have to be set to int.

Also check things like RAM being seated properly. The A4000 has really, really crappy SIMM sockets; the worst i've ever seen infact. My A4000 has a wad of paper jammed between the mediator busboard and the SIMMs to hold them in place!

Also check by the battery for signs of corrosion on the tracks. Also, there are a couple of resistors by the Paula that are known to leak (causing the loss of paula audio; its a very common fault on A4000s, don't know which revisions this applies to though. Unfortunatly the paula audio on mine is dead through this).

Hi

They only I get is some blank horizontal lines when i push the power bottom, and nothing more.

The 4k does it with or whotout the 3640 cpu module, so it appears to be an mobbo broken.

Where the hell I can get some info about repairing the 4k mobbos?

you only need an 060 u say..., well good luck on finding one, u might aswell just search for a ppc + 060 then, its almost impossible...but then again u might be lucky.

for rtg gfx cards... why???? , just get a mediator instead and put a voodoo5500 in it..

good luck.
