Wanted: Free home for "Orphaned" Amigas and hardware
« on: December 15, 2005, 06:12:11 PM »
Hello,

We were once a thriving Amiga Users Group here in the United States until about 6 years ago when things just sort of died down.   Now we have several Amiga computers, and numerous hardware items + software, that are sitting in storage.  They were recently checked out, and everything seems to work.

Do you know of any organization or individual that can find homes for these computer systems?   We are willing to donate ALL the items I have listed below.  These came from our club members, and were all well cared for:

A1200  (1) (club machine)
A2000 basic (1), with small hard drive, keyboard, mouse
A500  (2) all with expanded memory, mice
A1000: (1) with 2 mb expansion sidecar

Amiga and Commodore monitors (3)--no broken doors, etc., picture looks fine

All the hardware,  computers, and monitors work fine.   We even have a bunch of software, external floppy drives, and a nice scanner to throw in.   If you believe you can help us put these working items to a good use, please let us know.  We seriously don't want to see these go into our landfill.   If you know of a way we can find homes for these Amiga computers, please contact us.  We will provide you with more details on the number/model of items we have left.

Again, we don't want to sell them; we'd like to offer them as gifts to someone that can enjoy them a bit longer.  All we ask in return is for you to cover the cost of shipping the items to your location.  If some of the items prove to be especially useful, you may consider a small donation to our group to cover our storage costs.  And please don't corrupt our spirit of giving by turning around and selling them for your own gain.

Thank you for your continued support of a wonderful platform.

Two options in my personal point of view : you can sell them  on Ebay worldwide or you can put them together again and I can assure you that you can get loads of help on this forum about every problem you may have !!  :-)

I would still place the items on ebay.  Charge actual shipping charges, and put the starting bid at the cost of the auction.

Clearly note in the auction that any bid above starting will be donated to your favorite charity.

Optionally, the bid amount could go towards covering the shipping costs, and any excess would be donated to charity.

This eliminates the possibility of someone re-selling them for profit, and can support your favorite charity at the same time.

If you have any A1200 accessories, may I have those too? Thank you for offering these! :-D Please email me at rogerswan@msn.com. I will pay you shipping no problem. I will add extra for a donation to your group. I promise I won't resell!!! I have been a good boy this year!

We have some special needs people we work with here in Florida.  I would be happy to help place these in their homes.

If it isn't too costly to ship here.

Thanks

Hi! i would be interested in any amiga related stuff you may have
Even tough im located in Argentina, my father lives in Miami, and travles often (or has friends who travle often) to Argentina.
It would be very cool to have some of that stuff. I can assure you that here we are very few, but very die-hard amiga users...

I have no prefernces, as long as its something amiga related, and could perfectly cost shipping to Miami, as stated..

Let me know!

cheers!

I'd love to pick up an A1000 or A500 (no monitor needed) for stuff that doesn't run properly on my A4000. Though giving them to special needs people sounds like a better cause. However, if they can't use all the machines I'd be happy to take one off your hands (assuming shipping doesn't turn out to be ridiculous).

I'd be interested in the A2000 depending on the shipping and the state of the motherboard (due to possible battery leakage.)

I'm located in Central Pennsylvania.

Hmmmm, at a certain time, I could and probably still can, take them all off your hands..............I have a little side dream that I want to open up a Tea Cafe.........this Tea Cafe is intended to Have a few......about maybe 10 Computers to go online..............the catch?  they wil all definitely be Amigas...and Amigas only............my intention is also to place 2 or 3 Arcade machines............Again.....with Amigas inside.........I have created an Arcade machine before running with Quarters and all containing and Amiga inside running an Amiga game. People loved it.

I hope to open the place up some day......My original intention was to Have 10 AmigaONE's but later considered to have Both Classics and PPC Amigas. So I would need a bunch.

Also thought about having my Church switch to Amigas rather than Macs, at least just for the Projection aspect......Macs are fine in the office.

Right now I have no Tea shop, and no money to open one......don't even know if it will ever happen.......But If I did have it.....a Big Amiga donation would certainly have helped.  I could however ask for either the A500 or A1200 for my room mate who has nothing except a TV we just found in the street........I wanted to give him one of my Amigas but, its one of my main machines, so I thought to let him borrow that or mt DTV commodore 64 Joystick wit the 30 games in it.

I have hundreds maybe thousands of floppies I could hand to him with an A500 for his gaming pleasure :-)

Let me know if I can have one :-)

also looking for a DCTV for myself or any Video related Applications or hardware, as I am a Video performer and use Amigas for the Visuals. a DCTV or Graffiti card or anything for the lowend Amigas will do me justice.

Thanks!

By the Way, I have belonged to a number of Amiga user groups...including one in Miami that died years ago.

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

Hello,

No, this is NOT a joke;

This is to all of the nice folks that have replied to our request to find homes for several Amiga computers, etc.

I have been away from my computer for the past three and a half days due to a family illness and apologize for the delay.

I'll respond to you all after I confer with our other club members once we can read all the e-mails and make some decisions.  Your generous and LARGE number of responses (over 12!) has been wonderful, and somewhat overwhelming.

As a courtesy, I'll get some Amiga friends to help me remove the covers from the Amigas and double check the motherboards for any battery leakage (one person kindly pointed out), and any other issues to make sure everything is shipshape, powers up, etc., and will not be a disappointment to anyone.  It's a bit more of a task than I can handle alone.  Please forgive us if the holidays with vacations, company, etc. may delay this somewhat.  One of my family members just mentioned that it might be wise to wait till the first of next year to try and ship anything, anyway due to the holiday rush.

Thanks again for your replies.  I've saved all your messages and WILL get back to you all.  If by chance I miss anyone once things get rolling---and you see me post details about the estimated shipping costs, the inventory of the Amigas, monitors, and hardware, etc., by all means, let us know.

At this point I haven't found anyone from our club willing to try and sell them on ebay (I have no experience in this area), so we'll see if that is worth pursuing---thanks for the tips and ideas regarding charitable giving, etc.!
