1081 or 1084-s monitor?
« on: December 15, 2005, 08:33:30 AM »
HI,
I have a working 1081 monitor and a a 1084-s that needs repair.
My question:Is their a difference in the screen modes that can be displayed on them.
I have read a lot of threads regarding monitors and the 1084-s seems to be the most preferred monitor to use with a1200.
So is it worth getting it repaired or continue with the 1081 as I cant get better than 640 x 256 or do i have to get a scandoubler to achieve higher resolutions thanks.

Both monitors can only display the TV modes (PAL and NTSC). VGA modes as created by a scandoubler cannot be displayed. I don't know anything about the quality of both monitors but regarding the available resolutions there is no difference. You should be able to get 640x512 with interlace, though. You should even be able to get 1280x512 (PAL:Super Hires Interlaced) although it's probably not readable at all.

Bye,
Thomas

Keep the 1081, it's much more uncommon and one of very few monitors that have Amiga printed on them. Only thing you'll get from the 1084s is "stereosound" that sounds terrible on the Amiga. ;)
