Ruff 'n' Tumble: unexpected game over??? WTF???
« on: December 13, 2005, 08:17:50 PM »
I just completed world 2 (Rocks and stuff) in Ruff 'n' Tumble. After I defeated the boss, rather than giving me a code for world 3 and then going to the next level, I got a game over screen saying "Passcode: none". I definitely completed it as I collected all the coins when the boss exploded. I guess I can just look up the codes for the next level, but I'm wondering if I did something wrong?

Thats not True!  I have finished the game, and it is indeed complete!  one of the Best Games ever made for ECS Amigas!   Im convinced that it looks AGA.

Anyway, the reason that is happening to you is probably because you have a Version from the Internet? and not the Original?......I have both, the internet ones have a Cheat that lets you skip levels, so maybe your WHDload icon needs the TRAINER removed from the ToolTypes

I wish they made Ruff N Tumble 2 and Ruff N Tumble AGA!  Wonder how that would have looked and Played.

It needs a Slight frame per second adjustment, so the Game should have been NTSC and not slow poke PAL.

anyone ver successfully ran this in NTSC? maybe using JST or WHDLoad?
it doesnt work for me..only up to the intro screen in NTSC

Also.anyone ever succesfully ran SlamTilt in NTSC.....I only get to the Menu in NTSC....after that is goes to PAL.

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

This game is not AGA?!  :-o  I thought it was! The designers have done a really amazing job with the graphics! You're right it is a version from the Internet as my floppy version wouldn't install with WHDLoad (too long in the loft I think). I'll check for the trainer tooltype. If it still doesn't work I'll just get a list of codes from the net and keep track of how far I get.

Cheers

Yeah... I know this bug...
It is impossible to advance to the next world if you don't start from the beginning...
It's not big pain under UAE - with 'save state' after each level...

Yes!  ElfMania was another one.......echnically the Most advanced Fighting game for ECS Amigas........even better than AGA ones!   Unfortunately the characters lok a little silly and the sound is not all there. nevertheless, Amazing for a 1Mb game!

other AGA looking ECS games:

Brian The Lion
LionHeart
ElfMania
Ruff N Tumble
StartDust  (Not Super Stardust)
Ruffian
Babeanoid

Good games:
Minskies
OutFall
KidChaos (Like Sonic THe Hedgehog)
Mr Nutz (Like Sonic the Hedgehog)
Battle Squadron
Pang!
Rodland
Parasol Stars
Gods
Chaos Engine
Arkanoid 2
Dynablaster
PacMania
Pucman
Turrican
Turrican 2
Apprentice
Zool 2

All those are absolute must haves and simple to get into.

I don't think it's a bug. I think the developers felt that if you use a cheat to start at another "world", you don't deserve to continue to the next.

Get around this by starting at the beginning and pressing "Help" at the beginning of each level to get to where you want. It's a pain in the ass, but you'll be able to continue playing to other worlds.

I didn't cheat, I used the level code it gave me when I completed the first world. What's the point of giving a level code if using it means you don't get the next one?

Maybe this is a result of using a version from the net. I wish I had WHDLoad-ed all my originals years ago and then backup up the WHDLoad folders to CD, before my floppies started to die  :-(

Oh well, I've found the level codes on the net so I will just skip to the world I got to last time.

Ruff and Tumble is great, except for the overly difficult final world in the castle. The last level contains a huge number of flying platforms over spikes, probably the most annoying thing in platform games.

It is possible to complete it if starting from the beginning. Just a wee bit difficult, that's all.

Yes, that last level is a pain in the ass - even with infinite lives.

Lots of games have reasonable building difficulty until the last level, then it becomes totally impossible. (Dune II comes to mind)

I'd have to say that I often find the difficulty in Amiga games ridicilous.

Shadow of the Beast I & II comes to mind (the games are not challenging, they are ridicilous. Beast II is complete and utter crap, when not only having to die like 30 seconds into the game, made sometimes last 5 minutes, but ALWAYS having to do everything all over and watch that really looooong and boring game over sequence... Beast III doesn't even feel like it belongs in the series, considering its great gameplay qualities which Beast I & II so obviously lacks).

Super Stardust (I've played the game for ages and never ever even been close to beating the darn thing... and using them other weapons, well, sometimes it feels just to risky to enter the weapon & upgrades menu to even bother about it).

Rock'n'Roll (is it a joke, no level codes? how on earth is one to beat the game with its huge and many levels? made it to level 8 or 9 at most)

Dune II (oh, let me se, what to do at this level... yeah, right, die 3 minutes after I've begun playing it, not even having the slightest chance of building up some kind of defence before those darn flying things comes destroying my base).

Kid Chaos (the level in the second world, where one not only races against the time but also have to smash them purple spiky things is completely insane. I've not even managed to race through the level only bothering about the time, how on earth am I then supposed to do it when bothering about smashing them things?) and so on and so on.

The list could be made really long, but since I am getting really upset here I'd better not go on at this very moment.
Amiga 1200, Mirage Tower, PC-Key 1200, Blizzard 1260/50, SCSI Kit, 256MB RAM, 40GB HD, Mediator SX, Soundblaster 128, Voodoo 3 and Realtek 8139.

Kid Chaos? Very manageable in the first half of the game (repeated goes and you should get through that level 2-2 without breaking into a sweat), then it gets harder. and harder.

For a laugh, type in the cheat 'hardasnails' and select the last level, 5-3. It is utterly impossible, unless you know the game inside out.

Level 4-3 (the Techno Fortress) is also insanely difficult.
