720K PC floppy ADF HELP.
« on: December 13, 2005, 03:20:01 PM »
OK here is the problem, I am using Wnidows XP Pro and AMiKit, with OS 3.9.
OK all works well.............BUT
My Amiga Tower at the moment is playing dead (PSU) but that can be put right later.
What I am trying to do is this.....
I have got a few CD`s with various Amifa software on such as Wordsworth 6.0 and AMosPro and other stuff.
I can use a 1.44 floppy disc using the PC as DF0: but I can do it going the 720K method via the PC floppy drive as PC0: this much I know.
But I cant format any pc floppy to get 720K using the DOS commands in XP.
I can get a load of CD software in the ADF style and I can get as far as the RAM: drive in AMiKit but I cant use the install option becasue there are for example 4 discs with Wordsworth 6.0 and I have only 1 RAM: drive.
How the heck can I get a PC720 to be formated or even a ADF: back noto an AMiga (AmiKt)
Any help her please I am stuck.

BTW I have no problem with ZIP, LHA or LHX its just the PC720k and ADF files.
TIA,

Mike.

Are you using this command:

format a: /t:80 /n:9

I also have XP Pro and that works when formatting real DD disks as 720k.

What happens when you try it?

OK I tried that as you typed it in, and it tries to format to 720k but I get a Invalid or bad track.

I am using 1.44 I dont think I have any 720K apart from Amiga DD discs.

@swift240

You did cover the HD floppy hole before attempting to format to 720K?

See wikipedia: Floppy disk / Floppy Trivia

Hang on, isn't AmiKit basically UAE? If so, why do you need to write the ADFs to floppies before using them in AmiKit?

I had 4 software programs on CD there all are in ADF format.
I have others of course.
What I am trying to get done is some software programs like Wordsworth 6.0 are on 4 floppy discs in LHA format on CD.
I am trying to get them onto my AmiKit HD.
Yes I can do tht BUT, I when I use the Install command in Wordsworth 6.0 I am told to use the floppy 4 disc as I dont have any floppy drives on AmiKit apart from RAM drive I dont see how I can Install the full program.
I can get each LHA disc onto RAM drive but thats as far as I can go, or even straight onto the HD but like I say as soon as  I use the Instal option then it aska for floppy 4 I cant do that as it stands.

I don't understand... why don't you just mount the 4 Wordsworth adf's as DF0:, DF1:, DF2:, and DF3:?
