Cyberstorm 68060 MK II + SCSI Module
« on: December 13, 2005, 08:08:31 AM »
Hello All,

I might have a little problem here.

I just got a new SCSI module for my CS MK II.

Now, the symptoms:

When i boot up the Amiga, without the SCSI module connected, the system boots fine.

When i boot up the Amiga, with the SCSI module connected, the screen stays black, and the IDE drive is not activate (I can tell by the HD LED)

I can see the Cyberstorm "rainbow" though when the module is connected, so the Cyberstorm itself is working correctly.

I thought that i should update the firmware of the CS for the SCSI, so I did.

The updater said that it was succesfull, and the CS "rainbow" still appears, so the board is still ok.

Does anybody have a clue. :-?  :-?

Please :boohoo: , i finally want to use a SCSI drive, instead of IDE, because this is less CPU load, and of course my external SCSI tower too.

have you checked termination? IIRC it could cause nobootup, at least on some SCSI controllers.

PS. from where did you buy SCSI module? me wants one too.. :-D

Do you have an A3000 computer? If you have not performed the INT2 modification then strange things can happen (dunno about not booting).

Edit: Ah you have IDE, so you have an A4000... :(

Have you checked the state of the Termination Jumpers? http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=235

Orange : Actually he got it from me as he is one of my best friends

Amigator´s A4000 has got kick 3.1 and is placed inside a big Micronik tower but he has also used the original A4000 daughterboard and the Mediator 4000Di, just to make sure the problem was not caused by incompatibility of a busboard ...

I´m talking to Amigator at the moment through Skype. There seems to be a nice evolution but not as perfect as hoped ...

The internal scsi port is now empty and the 18 Gb Quantum Atlas V hd is connected to the external scsi connector. Now the system boots perfectly !! Next problem is that the HDtoolbox on the OS3.9 Emergency Disc only wants to install 1,7 Gb of the 18 Gb ... can anybody give bright advice on this ???  :-?

Had the same problem. Find the docs of the disk on the net, and input it's values manually in HDToolBox (cyclinders, etc).
Anyway is the only way

Phase5 SCSIConfig should work better.

Framiga : no it works at 50 Mhz.

Piru : Amigator has now done a search for the technical data of the harddisc and entered the data manually in HDtoolbox ...

Hello all.

Thanks for the tips, the SCSI module works now.

About the automatic recognition of the HD's geometry:

After selecting cybscsi.device, it reports that there is a Quantum HD sized 17 Gbyte (hd is actually 18.3 Gbyte) :-)

After installing the HD, it reads its config, and says that it is only 1.7 Gbyte... :-?

Well, i have looked on the internet for the tech-specs of the hd and entered it manually. :rtfm:

This seems to work. :-D

The 2 CD-Rom drives and the 1 CD-RW drive are recognized and working perfectly too. :-D

Hehe, now up to the next chapter: installing the Brand New MEDIATOR 4000Di + gfx + 100 Mbps rtl 8139 + FM 801 sound. :-P

Well then.

The mediator has been installed, but i have another problem.

I installed the fortemedia soundcrad FM801.
It is recognized correclty.

The Paula can be looped trough, it can be heared perfectly.

Also, there is a program, called mixer.
When playing sounds trough paula, which is connected to the line in of the sound card, you can use the volume slider, and the volume is changed for the different types,

But when playing trough AHI, all i hear is crackling sounds...

Also tried a SB128, but this is not working at all.

Recognized, yes, but when playing, the program used stops the playback...

No sounds can be heared.

Any tips on the FM801???

Go to SYS:Prefs.
Double-click on AHI.
Choose Music Unit 0.
Increase the frequency to the maximum (e.g. 48000hz, I think).
Click on Save.

That's it. :-)

Can it be that the Mediator needs a dma upgrade in order to use soundcards ??? Heard that some Prometheus´ses need that ...

Problem seems to be solved, just got a mail from Amigator.
The issue with the Fortemedia (and others too) soundcard not  working on the Mediator4000Di has got to do with installing the drivers for all cards that are plugged in. In the beginning he had the soundcard and the S3 Virge gfx card and the 8139 network card plugged in but only the soundcard´s drivers installed and it didn´t work. Now he has installed the gfx and network cards too and suddenly the soundcard seems to work. Appearantly you need to install all the drivers first before it works
