Oh that was just me talking out of my arse.

I was being sarcastic at all the folks out there that go around and show and tell about how Amiga still makes a difference nowadays by being professionally used over other more modern and readily available solutions. It was pure b*llsh*t and nothing more.

x56h34:

Why did you start talking out of your arse anyway? Nobody in this thread was being a freak and doing moronic bragging - we were just answering the original poster's question. Next time your arse decides to talk, don't let it near the keyboard. (.. I assume your arse was doing the typing too ;-) )

I use two A1200's with Blizzard 1230 IV for presentations in a theater. Software is Scala Infochannel. One of the A1200's runs 24x7. The only problem I have here is to swap faulty HD's regularly.

well, look as it this way: if that spacecraft would have went down due to an system failure... well... some astronauts would have died, they knew what they were doing... but if a plane crashes into the toronto tower, it could be /me :-D

@Technoid

if you argue like this, you should mention, that windows also is a pretty stable system, as long as you leave it alone, disconnected from net and all media removed ;-)

...What format do you play them in? I have one Bach song that I transcribed on Deluxe Music Construction Set.

Sorry Amiduffer, I missed your question (.. got caught up in the "arse talking"). I recorded them in DSS in 8bit IFF, but they sound pretty good (..unlike Windows 8bit) and they take up about 1/6 the space of 16bit (which can't be played on an A500 anyway).

But I just bought an iPod Nano, so I use that instead 8-). There's still one advantage of the Amiga recordings though - my recordings from cassette tape. I tried recording from tape on Windows and it sounds like total crap compared to the Amiga recordings.

Still, I stick by my argument that AmigaOS is *not* unstable. There is just a lot of crappy software written for it that causes it to become unstable (as there is on every other OS on the planet). There is also a lot of very high quality software that will run with no problems.

It is generally considered to be the job of a modern operating system to keep poorly written programs from bringing down the whole system. Amiga OS fails miserably at that. Sure if you load up an XP system with tons of viruses, spyware or shoddy drivers you can make an unstable mess out of it, but if Amigas were as popular as Windows PCs it would have the same problems (worse if things were as it currently stands since Amiga OS isn't particularly secure).

I use mine for a bit of everything really.

I write a lot, so NotePad and TuiTED get a lot of exercise as well as TVPaint, ArtEffect 3 and Photogenics (for a bit of image manipulation for articles). I'm currently working on a dissertation and I'm using AmiPDF a lot for that as well as AWeb for browsing for information.
Besides that I'm listening to radio streams using Tunenet, listening to sids using Sid4Amiga, playing various albums using Amplifier and using UADE for mods (using deficons for that).

I'm using SimpleMail for all my email needs. DvPlayer or Mplayer for watching fansubs. AmIRC and Wookiechat for IRCing and instant messaging through Bitlbee (all the time really :-)). I have Dopus4 set up for various tasks but mostly use the Workbench for various tasks. ATC gets a lot of usage as well - both for maintaining my homepage and shuffling files around locally (when I'm not using samba between my various machines).

Once I get more time on my hands I intend to use Goattracker quite a bit for making some sids (already did one). Once I get hold of a midi sound interface I plan to play around with HD-Rec and Horny, but that's some time into the future yet.
I used to use Newscoaster quite a bit, but don't have time to keep up with usenet anyway these days. TurboCalc gets fired up when I need to do the odd calculation. I use FryingPan to do backups now and then (cd or dvd).
TView is used to keep track of what I won't be watching on the telly anyway - it's good to be on top of things ;)

Since I'm a bit of an emulation buff I enjoy messing around with various emulators - my favourites are VICE and FPSE. At the moment I don't use VICE much though, since it's so easy to just move the files to an SD card and put them in the C64 itself.
I also play the various games when time permits. There are lots of great SDL ports and a huuuge amount that I haven't even tried yet (Beats of Rage rocks!). Since I'm a huge LucasArts fan ScummVM gets a fair bit of exercise as well.

I guess I use my Amiga for pretty much everything. I just don't have a supported printer, so when I've finished parts of my dissertation I move the files across to my Powerbook, fix typography there and print from that. I'd like to be able to print from my Amiga some day in the future though.

I <3 my µA1-C :-D

I mostly use my A500+ for games. I sometimes use it for drawings on DPaintIII.

I hope to make a switch to amiga one day. Windows get too annoying.
